I think some electronics too, different & different functions.

The 2018 motor is new (unchanged for 2019), KTM's first use of the double-balancer in an offroad application apparently.

What I can find so far is new update engine amd suspension

The new engine produces an additional 6bhp, bringing peak power up to a quoted 74bhp at 8000rpm. Torque is also increased, up to 52ftlb at 6750rpm. The new engine also features a second counter balancer shaft to reduce vibrations. A new 50mm throttle body gets rid of the mechanical linkage to the throttle for improved throttle response.

Also looks like it's got different suspension WP explore on the 2018 and WP 4CS on the 2016  no idea what's better, I'll google or someone that knows can maybe comment

So the question is is it worth buying a 2018 and paying more or just settle for the the older model? will buy 2nd hand

2nd Balancer shaft added to 2017 models along with few extra horses. No change at all for 2018. To answer your question, if you can find a clean 2017 model then it would make sense to save a few bob rather than plump for a 2018.

That was done in 2018, and the same motor is now in the 690's.
