Shoei Hornet Helmet Screw
« on: August 22, 2019, 09:43:16 am »
I'm looking for a single Plastic screw for a Shoei Hornet Helmet purchased in 2014/5. The plastic screw that is fastened by a Philips screwdriver, not the twist screw.  Seems Shoei no longer make these and expect you to buy a new helmet instead!

No special Shoei screws are required - they have standard metric threads

I used a normal cap screw on my Hornet helmet when I broke the plastic screw

If it is the clear plastic screw you need that sits under the visor side mounting bracket (the screw on the right in my pic below) then I would recommend trying a button head cap screw because it has a much lower profile and you can even grind some metal off the head of the screw so that the cover fit over it

Should not cost you more than a few rand at a local fastener shop

TIP: don't overtighten the screws because you will break the inserts out of the helmet

Use standard gutter screws. Saw them off at the required length.

I wanted to replace mine with OEM, R95 per screw - screw them, gutter screws did the job.  :thumleft:

Kevin at Trac Mac Paarden Eiland had a box full of loose Shoei inners when I visited there the last time.

Sorted me and the price was fair.

Fantastic, thanks.
Needless to say that the "help" at the TracMac Bellville store was, umm, not too helpful.

I would not want metal screws pointing towards my noggin like that - previously considered doing it with my Hornet, but just decided to order the screws from Shoei.

Or simply Google nylon metric screws and find a local SA supplier, like these okes:

Alao maybe call a Bolt & Nut and ask where you can get them.
