If not a rumour-only a very, no, VERY good idea - if, no, IF the weight comes down as well!
A smaller & lighter AT will be proper opposition for the 790 & T7, so let's wait and see!

Looks like a AT1000 with different exhaust, weight would be almost the same. Build a 650.

The 1000 is already competing with power in the 850/790 sector?

So essentially a detuned 1000, making 80horses.  :lamer:

Less power, more emissions (= weight)

Looks like a AT1000 with different exhaust, weight would be almost the same. Build a 650.

Should a manufacturer come out with a new state-of-the-art 600-650 class engine (decent power, useful torque, low fuel consumption), and package it well in a good frame (solid, but not too heavy, no expensive decorations), with decent (but upgradable) suspension, with basic electronics (ABS, traction control, 2 or 3 ride modes), I think they will do very well with international riders, who will use such a bike for many purposes (commuting, weekend fun rides, longer adventure rides, etc.). The T7 probably comes close, but a bike that is kinda like 25% less of everything may be better for younger (read weighing less!) riders?
But perhaps I'm just being sensible, and the world doesn't seem to be very sensible these days...
