KTM is way more expensive. Teneremotor is tried and tested in a number of different models.

Absolute power is not always an advantage.

That is like saying " she has a nice personality".
In real life that means fat with small tits.

with a nice face though. perfect T7 summary.

so why do we compare the T7 to 790R on price if the standard 790 will already wipe it on and offroad and on range as well as comfort....
at least its going to be reliable...

Where did you watch/read this?

Same 43mm 210 travel suspension specs.
Lower COG
Better electronics for offroading! ;)
Much bigger tank

Yeah, I propose that in future the dogs compare the T7 to the cheaper road focused 790...

Well it looks like the new owners of the Yamaha T700 are quite happy with their bikes.
Some real world evaluations here
https://advrider.com/f/threads/yamaha-t700-tenere-owners-thread.1395958/
I am very glad that these people are happy with the new T7! Really I am! I do think that they must have really low standards to be happy with this.

Honestly I am very disappointed in the bike given the fact that Yamaha has been sitting on this for 3 years and the motor is basically the same as the old one the suspension is spongy  as one of the report states it.

The 990 is a 7year old bike but it will outride the T7 by miles I am sure!!!

Paar Yamaha tannies met nat kerk rokke so op n Sonsag aand. :ricky:

I cannot believe Mr Yamaha is going to give us a 200kg ( gassed up and on a trip) bike without a centre stand. My son gave me his KLE 650 and I would say that no centre stand is the bike's biggest short coming in the real world where we do get punctures and we do want to take wheels off outside our workshops. Just to make it worse they put an exhaust pipe where your emergency rock would go.

Search your feelings Dan-Wan. You know it to be true. Althought the Yami has adjustability which will probably give it the slight edge suspension wise but the overall ktm chassis will keep it close.

Yamaha  - Great adventure bike for the guy that only do gravel from time to time....and don't like to jump his bike......Gentleman's bike....

KTM - Great adventure racer, for the hooligan, if you come from a MX or enduro background and push the limit every time you throw a leg over, this is for you.....

I agree, yet his take reflects the vast majority of riders who has no yearning to fly through the air on a 200kg 2wheeler.

So, boring, but not at all pointless.

Was this the standard 790 tested?

I think the biggest problem is people are comparing these bikes to each other, the 690 is in a class of it's own single cylinder big bore, the T700 is in a class of it's own 700cc  and the 790 is in a class with the GS and Triumph 800cc,  so really not sure why all these cone riders are trying to compare champagne with oranges, two totally different bikes, one for Sandton and one for the rest of the world.

:sip: And, it looks like the Tiger 800 xcx is going to be upgraded to a 1000cc to complete with the Africa Twin, everyone seems to compete.  :bueller:
Yamaha 50, Yamaha 400, 2 x Yamaha DR 350 LC, Honda CBX 550 F2, Honda TransAlp 650, Triumph Tiger 800 Xc,
Now 2015 Triumph Tiger 800 Xcx.and.. my favorite... 1996 Yamaha Tenere 660 5 valve single.

T7 a nice top heavy wet weight 205kg
minus 16l fuel = 193kg
790R curb weight 189kg
   20l fuel @ 0.75kg/l
790 wet weigh = 204kg

+ or - our boeps/google errors there is no weight difference here, only a very big COG difference

How spoilled we have become over the years. :ricky:
I felt like a king when I got my new KLR 250 many years ago. Travelled all over long distance with it. Sometimes with a girlfriend.
2 up with a good wind from behind one could sometimes see 110km/h on the speedo. Without help from the wind we were mostly flying
along at 80 to 90 km/h.  2 Blankets rolled up tight in an army groundsheet. Lots of times we slept on the floors in the toilets at petrol stations or sometimes
in a cell at the local police stations.Petrol money carefully kept aside under the seat so we cannot touch it when we were drunk which was most of the times.
I could only dream about the technical wonders and power of the XT600's, the XR 500's or DR 500 which I all owned later on. My friend Mike T did his touring
on his 50cc from Capetown to east london etc but he was a serious pot smoker :-)
Loved those days. Can you imagine how manly you smelled after a week of fucking in the bushes, drinking vrot wine , working on the bike all in the same clothes. Bathing ,toothbrushes and deoderants did not feature.  Both of us drinking vrot wine all day and everyday ensured that we smelled exactly the same . 100% Paarl Perle.
Wonderfull and awesome bikes these two.Yam 700 and the Ktm 790 .  I can only marvel at these fantastic machines  :thumleft: :ricky:
