KTM 350 Freeride
« on: September 26, 2019, 09:48:40 am »
Hi Chaps, i cant find any info on these little bikes anywhere here. What are the thoughts on them, they seem really well priced on the 2nd hand market for a small run around? I know it will feel like a dog compared to my 690 but at 100kgs wet it must be like a feather...

i got one, alongside my 990, for exactly that reason. Its roadworthy, so i can nip to the shops (when in town) etc.
I use it on the farm as well, perfect little chug along while checking the fields, livestock etc.
Really goes anywhere, light and nimble, like a cross between a tials bike and enduro.
Brakes are not good and i did have a boil over while crawling along a really badly rutted goat path during hot weather.
But i like it, for what it is

Hi Chaps

I finally found one with 700kms on the clock for a good deal. The bike is tiny but then i basically fell off my 690 every time i slowed down so this is not a bad thing:)

Power etc is fine actually, it goes well and is very nimble.I need to just source a set of bar raisers. Overall very happy with this little bike.

Well that was short lived...........second ride out on the 350 and the rear brakes failed completely. Almost had an accident as a result......

It turns out the Formula brakes on the pre 2017 models were all junk and known for failing. In some instances it seems the KTM dealers have offered a set off a new model. My bike is at KTM now, they are trying to figure something out. So far they have been really good about the situation, hopefully the boys find a solution. New bike back in the shop just before Christmas holidays......awesome :'(

The brakes are NOT great

I have just rebuild mine, front&back

The piston is of a type of plastic, give it a minuscule polish on an accurate lathe.
The o-rings are square and hard to come by, gently take them off and replace them opposite way (new leading/scraping edge)

The biggest bugger is the bleed process.
Use the reverse method, with the adjuster fully open, back pressure from the caliper to the master, slowly-repetitively.
The front master has a small hex screw, basically in the middle of the cylinder, the trick there is to open that valve and also reverse bleed from the bottom up.

mine are good now.

good Luck

KTM Cape Town dropped the bike off yesterday, new rear uprated components and new pads. No charge, really impressed with the Cape Town guys. Even though it took ages, they kept me in the loop along the way, will take the bike for a spin this weekend and see how she stops.
