Blanking out number plate in Photos

Some people blank out or make sure the number plate / reg number do not show in photos, yet some others don't bother and even post pics of the license disc showing the VIN ect.

Has anyone had anything bad happen as a result of this? I can only think that a fake number plate could be made and you get fines / Etolls that are not yours? but this can happening when you ride your bike on the roads or park it in any public place...
