Rallye Du Maroc
« on: October 08, 2019, 07:06:05 am »
No one following the rally?

The Hondas are again playing catch up to KTMís after SS3 yesterday.

Kevin Benavides finished at a slow pace due to a destroyed rear tyre.

But, after the recent Tankwa Rally there was someone that really impressed me and Iím religiously following her progress.  Taye Perry is fast, way faster than I ever imagined.  The little pocket rocket is a super humble young lady that always makes time for a quick chat and tell you about her day.  What a great result on SS3.  Go Taye!

I'm following it as close as I can as well and yes, especially Taye's progress. I've been a huge fan of this young girl for a few years now. Actually since she was 16 and came to race the Koue Bokkeveld in the Cape and surprised the heck out of everyone with her pace and determination. She has the making of a true champion, I just wish a large sponsor would see what we see and back her all the way. Maybe Dakar will be her launch pad, I truly hope so  :thumleft:

Ross is also an absolute legend, hardly anything gets that oke down  :thumleft: Hoping he takes it to the big guns at the Dakar, he's fast, intelligent and his navigation is improving in leaps and bounds  :thumleft:

I've been following it as much as I can.

I've been following most of the Southern Africa guys but its the Kahalari rally at the same time and between the 2 of them i'm not getting much work done  :sip:

Been following Graeme Sharp as well on his road to Dakar. Taye is riding a very impressing race  :o At times her and Graeme are on the same times and then she pulls ahead.

Sponsors are harder and harder to find in this sport and you will notice that the companies who do sponsor ( besides factory team ) are for the most part non motor sport related. It just doesn't get the same reach on TV or social media than other sports, take someone who is at the top of their game Toby Price, i'm under correction but he is followed by about 40k people and Toby Price racing about 160k people. Compare that to Anna Kournikova ( unfair comparison I know ) is a few million people, so when you looking for sponsors its really difficult.

I worked it out that if i wanted to do about 6 or 7 funduro's , the Tankwa and the Kalahari rally It would cost close on R200k, R187 500.00 to be exact. SO when it comes to Dakar i would hate to know how much they need to raise to compete, even the Rallye Du Maroc.. that must come with a pretty hectic price tag.

#RallyeduMaroc Provisional Results of SS4. The race direction decided to cut the race at km 311 at the CP1 as one of the 3 helicopter was out. Toby Price Racing (KTM) opened the Special and was lost as a lot of riders and Matthias Walkner had a crash and hurt his right knee.

From Taye:

Finish SS4. #RallyeDuMaroc
Hereís a forward piece for you...
I know Iíve been quiet, but Iíve been completely consumed by my race mode... and all the adapting to a full Rally bike for the first time, and learning (and struggling).
But Iím no quitter, and I believe thereís so much progress to still be made with me on it.

TAYE PERRY HAS ARRIVED...YES SHE HAS! Our Desert is really having a ball in Morocco and it's showing in her results! Taye Perry had another great day on Stage 4 today and is holding her GC position and 2nd Female overall (GC to be confirmed later). So proud of you TP! Keep it steady tomorrow!

Does anyone know why Taye ended with 2 hours penalties?

Holding thumbs for a good sponsor to save the day!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for this thread Kobus!

Yip, this was a great rallye - loved every moment of it!

Pretty much a mini Dakar in every sense! Morocco is amazing!

Thanks to our Amageza days the transition to such a big event went smooth.

Here are a few pics:
