Guys, this new deluxe tented camp opened only 2 months ago.
13 of us went there Friday and Saturday nights, 4-6 Oct.
We were all most impressed.
Its an awesome venue. Luxury tents. Spacious, fully insulated against daytime heat and nightime cold. Comfy beds. Hangers for kit, camping chairs to sit outside the tent, electric overhead light and sockets for charging. Each tent has a raised platform alongside for those that wish to sleep under the stars (to get you off the ground and away from scorpions and critters).
12 tents each with two single beds at the moment, but they plan to gradually increase this to maybe 16 tents max.
The communal area has three toilets, three hot indoors showers, two cold outdoors showers (very welcome in the hot Karoo), boma with fire pit, a hip-height braai big enough for at least 12 people, pool table outside, an outside table and one inside for eating and socialising, a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, gas hob and over, cutlery, crockery , pots & pans, and an honesty bar. Self-catering, but you can pre-order braai-packs and ingredients for breakfast.
We had planned a long circuit ride for Saturday, so the owners, Paula and Hannes van der Merwe, offered to prepare a Karoo Sheep Potjie for us which was absolutely amazing.
It is located near the bottom of Ouberg Pass, at the bottom of the Roggeveld Plateau below Sutherland.
And ideal venue from which to explorer Tankwa Park, Gannaga Pass, Middelpos, Sutherland and Ouberg Pass.
If you want a nice challenging route, make sure you go through Amandel Nek on the way up or on the way back.
Reminiscent of Old Postal Route, but there are also much easier and faster routes to get there.
This place will become very popular.  Ideally, book out the entire venue and organise a group of 12 persons.
Make a plan to go before they become fully booked every weekend.
