On the Road Costs - private buy......
« on: October 23, 2019, 11:59:15 am »
So last year i bought a G650x from TankGirl to fix up & sell or something.
End result is i fixed it, but sold the GSA, so I will ride this for a bit, so I needed to sort the paperwork out - a little more expensive than I anticipated......

Registration cost - R180 - to get it in my name
License fee - R123 - license not issued as there is no roadworthy certificate (bike is in pieces) - but you have to do this....
Roll on 10 months - bike is fixed up
Roadworth Certificate - R476
License Fee - R276 - and yes, you have to pay again once the certificate is issued...
New number plate - R350
so the total is R1405 - these are the "on the road costs" we hear bantered about....

Interesting things I noted....
 - no data dot required
 - I was not issued a "new series" registration/plate number - the bike still runs the "old plate XMY_ _ _ GP - I thought that when a "old" vehicle is re-registered, it got a new series reg No.......

Anyway, it took a trip to the license department (Regitration/change of ownership/license), the roadwothy centre (Dekra Boksburg) and the Post Office to get the new Disc - oh, and a company in Benoni to get a new non-sabs plate made......

Yes, and if you tell the dealership that you are willing to do it yourself, they say NO.

This is a question I raised a while back http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=240655.0 So once going through roadworthy I am going to pay the full licence fee again just to get the disc  :dousing:

Cayenne in Kyalami were infamous for that.

Cayenne tried to hit me with one of those as well. This was for a dirt bike that was R45K. I posted a snippet below of there costs.
No wonder they went down trying to extort money from people.

DEALER ADMIN FEE R2,250.00
LICENCE AND REGISTRATION - BIKES R950.00
OTR OFF ROAD  4,000.00

Dealers don't do the registration themselves so most of the them do a Dekra roadworthy and a basic check on The cars that is R950 ex vat
The companies also charge R180 extra to do the Natis and R180 extra to do the licence
when you trade in your car or bike and you still owe money the car is settled and natis has to be requested  from the banks  ,this is a full time job at a dealership and takes up to 2 weeks to get the natis from some of the banks

I understand. But this was for a non licensed bike. It never went for roadworthy it only was registered on my name.
