Don't hear anything from the BMW guys? :deal:

What is the advantages of it with doing technical stuff? Not talking about the long distance gravel roads.

As per Manic's explanation, no benefit whatsoever in technical stuff.

A hint at it's usefulness on a D/S bike is that it is used without exception in drag racing. :pot:

Ok maar dit is mos maar n manne ding daai :pot: Daar sal altyd tyd en plek gemaak word daarvoor :ricky:

Dion, ek kom agter jy hou van gadgets so ek weet jy gaan dit anyway opsit.

Soos jy hierbo terrreg se...dis 'n manne ding. Die quickshifter maak dat die bike so 'n lekker blaffie gee, veral as jy afgear.

Ek het eenkeer 'n BMW S1000XR as loanbike gehad en hyt quickshifter gehad. Was gewoond daaraan binne twee robotte se afstand en het heeldag daai bike aspris laat blaf.

Kom ons interpreteer gou die finansiele aspek.

My opinie? It's all relative.

Paar jaar gelede het n vriend van my dit laat opsit op sy 2016 R1200GSA LC. Dit was so R 7000, op 'n R 250 000 bike. Dis so 3% van die fiets se waarde.

As ek dit byvoorbeeld omskakel na my 1200 se waarde toe is 3% op 'n "nice to have" op 'n R 65 000 bike is so R 1900 odd.

I didn't spec quick shifter on my 790 but it came with it in the end. It took a while to get used to but after that you cant imagine life without it.

On my 690 you can do clutchless down shifts no problem. Up is either old school seamless shift or clutch slip with throttle wide open  :ricky:

I am contemplating trading my 690 for a new one just for the quick shifter.

Speak to BaasAttie before you do, he hates the QS on the 690.

Best gadget you can have on a bike. Permitting it works flawlessly.
On my 1200lc the qs was still a bit agricultural, but one the 1250 its like a hot knife through butter.

I always use it, up and down from 1st all the way up - no issues.

Its a very very nice to have, but when you ride with pillion the benefit even more tangible. No more helmets banging when changing gears. Its definitely makes for a more pleasant passenger ride.

Have a quickshifter on my 790
Had doubts due to so many conflicting opinions, itís amazing, itís kak, canít live without it etc.
anyway finally decided to fork out for the ďactivationĒ thereof, fok, KTM are sneaky. So itís comes prefitted, if I understand correctly, just needs software to be unlocked before you can use it.
Here is my summary...
Where one is able to open throttle and give it stick, which I donít really do that often, it is great, very very smooth, better than my 1250 GSA...
in the tight, technical stuff, it is an absolute no-no... if your foot barely touches the gear lever, it kinda slips into neutral and power is lost, you know what happens next...  beauty of the Ktm system is that one can then switch it off and it is happy days again.
Would I have pay the 3.5k again to have it activated... for my type of riding, a definite no.
For my 1250 with mrs on the back, as somebody else pointed out in earlier post, it is a winner..

I just want to say again, like the KTM and BMW bikes, that comes with it, or you can buy it from the Dealer to have it fitted, like the previous GS LC, yes do it.

If you have a bike that it aint an option from factory, and you dont get your bike brand shifter to buy, I wont go fit a aftermarket shifter to it. Just my 2 cents.

The 1600GT BMW first came without the option. My Uncle wanted one, there was aftermarket units to buy. After a few days on Google, everyone said that the gearbox packed up after a few thousand kilometres when fitted... Then 2 years later the 1600GT came out in stock form with the Shifter. Few google searches showed BMW had changes made to the gearbox to accommodate the shifter, and all is good.

Factory fitted Units work like a bomb. My GSA and H2 has them, up and down shifts. They are awesome indeed  :thumleft: Im not a big fan of aftermarket shifter units sorry  :'( :'(

Thanks Striggs,

you're the first to properly explain how the 790's system, Std Oem & Optional Extra, works and what one gets for the money.

I didn't buy the option so mounted the gearlever a notch too high, so as to create some bootspace allowing me to move on the (bigger/lower) pegs, in doing so almost fully negating the accidental interferences.
So, now I have to operate the lever a little bit more 'on-purpose' rather than just 'wiggle my toe', and I have already gotten used to this.
As said, love the QS on tar but avoid it on the off.

Het nou die dag amper my gat gesien toe ek wegvlieg by die robot met WOT en ek die gear lever per ongeluk raak  tussen 2de en 3de rat.  :imaposer:
