Taye Perry Dakar Rally 2020
« on: November 02, 2019, 03:06:47 pm »
So not sure how many of you know this but Taye Perry South Africa's leading rally lady is doing Dakar next year. She isn't the only one, Kirsten Landman will be there as well.

So for the first time in History SA have 2 ladies not only qualified for Dakar but will be racing.. Its very much a mans world but if you look at how Laia Sanz of Spain competes finishing 12th overall. Ladies not only try get through but can be as good as the men..

Taye wants to use this as her first event of chasing the World Championship title.

I have to say she is however battling on getting the final budget together to make it happen. If there are any Dogs that would be willing to help it would be greatly appreciated by her sure. And I know she has still not finalized her kit or any designs so any bigger corporate or companies wanting to sponsor her can have actual place on kit, helmet and bike.

If there is any interest to help please just say yes and ill  reach out.

Regards
Robbie

Taye did the Tankwa and she did the Kahalari rally as prep.. I did'nt see Kirsten at either so I wonder how the prep is going for Kirsten, I don't see much posted online of her prep..

Yeah I find the contrast quite interesting between the two. Kirsten seemed to be focusing on enduro's more through the year with Taye doing more X-country and rally style riding. Then the other thing is that somehow Kirsten has sponsorship and funding waxed while Taye really seems to be having a fight of it. I hope she makes it, I think we'll see a great result from her.

I can't contribute this month, but definitely will next month.

Sponsorship isn't easy in SA at the moment. I know Taye has been speaking to a lot of people but so many come back and say, either they only sponsor teams or events or its not BEE enough. Which is super sad.
She wants to make a real go of this the next 4/5 years and who even comes on board with a long term relationship.

None the less Taye will be at Dakar. And she will surprise some ppl. Going to be interesting to see who is the queen of the desert between the two ladies.. My mioney is on  Taye.

Thanks for promoting this Robbie, this kid needs a shot at the big time for sure  :thumleft: I committed to a donation last week already but I'm struggling getting an EFT transfer to Backabuddy through. I'll get it done though  :thumleft:

Please dogs, even a small donation of R100 will help Taye, she's got what it takes  :thumleft:

Just to add, what people don't realize is just how much money it takes to compete in the Dakar.

If you take into account pre event training I recon it will add up to about R300k for a year if you going to do Tankwa nd kahalari rally, more if you doing Morocco as well.  once you take into account qualifying events, tyres, mechanical repairs & parts, entry fees for the year, kit & gear, diet, gym training etc then if you renting a bike you in for about R600k for a rally bike and about R1.2 bar for the event, well i think just the team race and licensing fees are over a bar.

The financial side is not for sissies. I recon from training to finish line you in for about R2.5 bar.

You not wrong, total budget is around 2.4 Bar. Hence the love needed from the community..

Key aspect for Lotto funding is you need to be an non-profit organization.

Unless I misread that this is actually that

The Lotto does support sporting entities. So if she is part of a racing team she could be in with a shout. They like to buy hard assets that can be sold if conditions not met.
The team would need to show well kept books so that the lotto would be able to see how the money was spent. More recently they try and source things for you but with this specialist venture they would battle.

My suggestion is she could try for a race and training bike and the necessary tools and possibly even a spare engine and other parts. She should find a previously disadvantaged youngster who can train with her and be a camp follower to show her desire to assist development. A third smaller bike could be budgeted for this which could be used as a pit bike during the event.

With all of this in place there is a strong likelihood she would be successful.

It was bred for racing, after all. It will devour rear tires and its lust for fuel will astound you. It will suffer indifference and carelessness very poorly.
