Roads condition -Tanzania from Sumbawanga North to Mwanza
« on: November 05, 2019, 09:26:11 am »
Hi Dogs

Im battling to find what the road conditions are like north of Sumbawanga in Tanzania. I heard there was a drive the last few years to asphalt a lot of the roads in that region but google maps images are all very old and same for google earth from 2010 ..

Any body know what its like in the region. Asphalt now or still a lot of dirt roads.

Ideally when going north ill take the B8 rom Sumbawanga north through the Kativi park to Mpanda.
Then options
1 turn right from Mpanda taking  B6 and going to Mwanza via Tabora nd Shimyaga
2 keep going north on the B8 basically till the southern shores of Lake Victoria and then right to Mwanaza

Any info would be help full..

Thanks

Road from Sumbawanga to Mpanda is predominantly dirt, the last 45km into Mpanda is tar (from Sitalike).

The road out of Mpanda towards Kigoma is tar for25 km, dirt for 180km and then tar again for the final 100km into Kigoma.
From Kigoma, through to Kasulu and Kibondo is mostly dirt BUT the Chinese are working on tarring the road, which in patches may be driven. The rainy season can make the dirt roads somewhat treacherous.

PM if you need more. I live in Kigoma.

Never hesitate to take that ride. Ride safe, ride often and ride far. The soul demands it.
