If you guys enjoyed that, you will love this.  A few weeks later,  Wayne rides again.  This time at Suzuka, with some old "mates" Lawson and Roberts.

It does warm the heart watch those guys.  It remind me of a time when riders where still hardebaard bikers as well.

I remember watching a documentary on Barry Sheene and in it is a scene where he's in a huge argument with the scrutineers.  Apart from it being rather funny, what stands out is that he, a possible world champion at the time, had to take the bike to the scrutineers himself.  The scrutineers didn't come to his pits and did their scrutineering with a mechanic in attendance.  It was a very different world.

Concur..

I think it was him also that lit up a cigarette as soon as he took his helmet off!

Yep.  He often did a victory lap with a cigarette in the mouth and the helmet on the tank.

And then he drilled a hole in his helmet to smoke :
On Rainey, many fond memories watching him race growing up. The men from that era were legends.
Always enjoyed Beattie and Mcgee as well - apart from the others that keep on being brought up as the greats.

I can't remember who it was, one of the American invasion riders, possibly Kenny Roberts or Eddie Lawson tells how impressed he was when he became a Yamaha factory rider as Yamaha provided him with TWO full time mechanics.
