@WannaBeJoe

Saw this bike at Offroad Cycles in Pretoria today - spotless, had to think of this thread.
2stroke but not a wild one, utterly reliable and on the road, and as said virtually new.
Maybe phone them?

Thanks for the heads-up. Trying to find something in and around Cape Town as a start before looking "abroad". Will be looking at a few Kawasaki KDXs over the weekend. Again, really appreciate the advice from this community.

KDX 200!
If you use a bit patience you will find a good one!
If you want roadworthy bike, the DT175 is a good choice.
My one foster son had one and did everything with his. ( even falling himself a nice roasty while we were dicing )  :peepwall:

My 12 jarige het n YZ85 big wheel, ook nogal n langerigge knaap. Die bike het n bietjie min torque, maar dit leer hulle vinnig die cluch werk -  so 2 dae se oefen. Die bikes is nogal vollop, dink nie daar is n groot verskil as jy n KX of RM of CR kry nie So R12 000 kry jy n redelike een.

Maybe that is a good thing then that it is not a ‘road’ bike

I am with Dux on this one. My deal with my son was that he can go nuts off-road and I will supply the equipment BUT if I ever catch him on a public road before he is out of my house then it all ends.

But BuRP you are right, he will probably "try me" at some stage ........

We are on a farm so that makes the temptation just a little less and at the moment he has buddies coming over from town bringing their bikes for the weekend. The Chinese bikes were a cheap option as we could have more than one which again helped the buddies who did not have their own bikes, but as I mentioned at the start of this post: they simply do not last. So we have now basically decided to trade a PW80 and a busted pit-bike for a repair on his quad (unfortunately also Chinese) and then hopefully a KDX 200 (I will be selling a kidney at some point ....).

I recently bought a KLR650 (2006) in very very good nick and will be having my Gelandewagen on the road pretty soon. The idea is then to do outdoor weekends where we can trailer his bike behind the Gelandewagen and then go off somewhere, camp and ride bikes. A very good friend of mine has a KTM 950 so he is in on the deal. Well, that is the plan .......

Thank you again for all the advice, it is deeply appreciate and heeded.  :)
