Anyone bought one of the new Norton Commandos?

New Norton Commandos

Has anyone bought one of these new generation of Norton Commandos? I walked into this bike shop by accident ( was looking for the T7 Tenere) and found these lined up in the display. I had no idea that it was anything but talk and that any bikes had in fact left the factory.

I'm not sure about the wisdom of releasing a new generation of what was a very flawed British legend with its dodgy iso-spastic frame,  smiths so called wiring, back to front and upside down controls, glow worm lighting set and perhaps most famously (or infamously) a controlling company bleating of industrial sabotage when the cheap as dogshit main bearings they sourced from Japan all packed up before 20,000miles.
However, when all was going well it was a lovely bike to ride. I can remember a fantastic  evening ride to North Berwick on one that was about perfect, and about as far as you did want to go because isoelastics or not, they did vibrate.

I could of course just call past Brian after work and get one of the originals for a pretty similar price to a new one. Brian has told me that this could be my next bike. I don't think Brian knows me very well.  As you can see at least the visual oil indicator is working properly on this one. If I get tired of the 4 speed box I believe my old Natal WFO mate Bruce Verdon who is across the water in the land of the long cloud can give me a new and better one.

New generation? They look like old stock to me. Notice in the first pic those don't have any oil in.

To make any kind of judgment of the new Norton based upon comparison with the old ones is ridiculous because they are a totally different machine made by a totally different manufacturer and any resemblance is purely visual. Deliberately so, obviously.

Whether the new ones have any built in faults of their own I wouldn't know, and whether they are worth the undoubtedly high price I guess is up to the market to decide.

All I know for sure is that they have all the features, or absence of them, that make a motorbike look just like a motorbike should look!  :drif:

No one has got one yet. The dealers are beside themselves with annoyance as potential customers go elsewhere.... and the Rocket III was always my favourite. Brian has a few including the Triumph version.

Norton Commander has always been my favourite file manager replacement for the standard file manager found in Windows.

Norton used to make a Model 7, but I don't think they ever made a T7.   ???

The Model 7 was the original ancestor of the Commando.

A T7 model must have been just a myth, like the later Yamaha.  :peepwall:

I love the look of the new Norton's and wallet willing I would not mind one...don't see them around though.

Rumours of poor reliability would worry me too. So guess if I were to buy a bike like that I would go Thruxton R.
Africa ain't for sissies hey.
