How good should one's riding skills be to be able to qualify?

Specialised Adventures are best equipped to answer those questions.  Without talking on their behalf; you donít need to be a riding god to participate.  Itís an extraordinary event for ordinary people.

From experience I would say headspace and attitude over skill - go for it!

You'll never know if you don't have a go. Mojaki Rammoneng from last year deservedly won it with his partner Claude Deyzel. Mojak's had only been on gravel once before! At boot camp, he fell off on his first corner of gravel. It must be said though, that his learning curve was near vertical and he has huge nuts and exceptional attitude. Also, it is impossible to win it without good teamwork so the both of them worked well together.

There were some scenic bits...

Dreamy bits

And some sweaty bits...

You certainly will tell loooong stories in your future if you get to go along.

I wonder where that road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. Appologies to Mr Frost

Edgar, riding skills is only one of a number of criteria that the marshals are looking at. It is not nearly as important as many might believe. I would rate the following as important: teamwork, functioning under stress, positive lookout, sharing your experience and knowledge, etc etc (I hope you get the idea)
The organizers also wants the participants to learn out of the experience and "walk out a richer man".

Many people has asked me to explain the Honda Quest experience to them. It is much bigger than what we think and although it is impossible to sum it up in one paragraph this explanation nails it pretty accurately:
