Help please - XR650L sizing (m.a.w. is ek te kortgat of nie?)
« on: December 03, 2019, 08:20:36 pm »
I am looking for a bike with which to take on Namibia this coming May. The XR650L ticks a lot of the boxes but I am mindful of the height...  I am 1.79m tall/short, what would you guys reckon and what is your experience?

Any advice is welcome  8)

I'm 1.76 and ride my XR600R comfortably. Same as the 650L.

I battle sometime to get my foot over, but once settled it is not high
Don't dress for the ride,........dress for the fall!

:thumleft:

I'm 1.83 and I'm not blessed with long legs.

The XR650L was not tall at all.

You'll be fine

Very nice old school thumper. Suspension is a bit pap, brakes not the best.

Lowering link!
For Kaokoland you need to be comfortable and confident on the bike that you go with.
A lot depends on your skill level, but go and enjoy!
You will do well.

Juis daardie Kaokoland wat my roep!
:thumleft:

I own a XR650L but personally do not find it a comfortable long distance all day in the saddle riding steed, neither can it carry any real form of luggage... if you plan to have a backup vehicle so you do not carry luggage etc go for it, otherwise I would look elsewhere...

Btw, I am 1.93 and even I stand on the left peg t get a leg over .. it IS high  ;)

I'm a short ass and find it OK.
Agree that it not great for all day in the saddle however I have no problem with luggage and camping gear.
If anyone needs a lowering link I have one somewhere.

:thumleft:

Nou begin jy jou trip geniet!
Ek is sommer jaloers.

Thanks for the comments, guys :thumleft:

I am getting the bike next week after which I need to sort out ownership and insurance admin, meaning it's going to be a long couple of days. Will probably only be able to take it out next weekend, which adds to the anticipation pain  :ricky:

Jou storie laat my sommer weet hierdie gaan 'n lekker affêre wees.  :thumleft:
