1200 BMW
« on: January 13, 2020, 12:14:45 pm »
Can get my hands on a 2008 R1200GS, but registration papers say it's a rebuild
Apparently a mistake on the papers but I think one would be stuck with that
The bike has been inspected by BMW and others and in a mint condition
R 70 000.00

What to do? - or walk away

Isn't that about the going rate for them is there are no issues anyway?

The seller should be able to get the authorities to fix their mistake on the papers if it is a mistake.

A normal 2008 GS 1200 have retail book value of R51 600
This already R20 000 less than what the seller wants

Typically a code 3 bike or car have a retail value that is about 25 -33% lower than bookvalue.
R51600 minus 33% = R 34 572

Wonder where the seller got his info from or on what he base his value on?
R71 000 is waaaaay too expensive for a 2008.

Remember that it is easy to buy a code 3 car/bike, but very difficult to sell it........... :deal:

I almost bought one the other day in absolute mint condition. Had second option to buy, but a mate of mine managed to get in first.
Anyway he phoned me last week to come have a look at a problem he was having. ABS light staying on.
Long story short and with some help around the WD's , it seems his pump has packed up. 19 k from agents. Don't want to scare you off, but just make sure you know what service and replacement parts cost. That bike is now 12 years + old

OK, I phoned my insurance, they will insure for 75% of retail R 68 100.00 iow R 51 075.00
I made the offer to seller and he's not interested
So, I'm walking away without tears

Thanks for the inputs

I see messages that I will get to, thanks

I think this is the right choice.

For that kinda money on that model there should be zero 'ifs and buts'

And it is not like your 660 Ten isn't doing what it is supposed to, so you have time on your side to find the right 1200.

02/02/12 - RIP Glen - the Arrow of Elliot and the little man with the big heart that truly was larger than life.

You have touched us and left us better for having known you - even if it was only briefly.

For grabbing the moment and living the day It's been way too early that you were taken away

Yip, correct decision.  IMO the "it's a mistake on the paperwork" is BS.

Hijack again.  Completely different pump @Leo.  2006 had servo assisted pump, 2007 had non servo assisted pump.  However, if you want to part with it, drop me a PM.  I may consider taking it off your hands.

Hijack off.
