Ruike P801

So it's been a while since I got this knife. Impressions at first were not too bad but it turned South during the first week of carrying it. Pivot screw came loose and I lost the stop pin. Found it eventually and put the knife back together and shelved it as I was a little irritated. It is a budget knife after all not ?
Well I revisited the knife the other day when I had some time for maintenance and sharpening and paid some attention to this knife. Stripped, cleaned sharpened and paid some attention reassembly and used some loctite. I sharpened this down to  .10 Microns and it was hilarious sharp, I actually cowboy shaved with it  :o The 14C28 is a pleasure to sharpen.

Well I have been using it for all manner of things and it is holding up well, still extremely sharp. The extra attention to reassembly has paid dividends and their is 0 blade play. Size and ergonomics are fantastic, I really like the slight up ramp and the jimping works well. The detent is good and the action fast and smooth. Lockup is positive.
My only major concern is that the lock seems a bit soft, no way will it open when you are using the knife correctly but this is another area that they need to work on.

All in all not too bad for a sub R800 knife.

Just make sure you get some loctite onto that pivot screw. loosing a stop pin is a PITA and you may as well bin the knife unless you have the tools to fashion one or a friend that can.

Winner!!

I was chatting with a friend of mine in CT who’s a big collector, and he sent some pics of his favourite knives. That one was in there and I asked him if he realised how rare and valuable they were these days.

He said yes, but it’s for sale if I wanted it. I could obviously not resist.

I can still remember seeing one at Huntex a couple of years ago, falling in love with it and then the disappointment when I asked about the price. I should have bought two.

Give me some more time. I only played with it for a couple of hours. I was away this weekend with the Sebenza.

Funny enough, that’s also one of my friend’s favourites.
