Lekker ride!! I will steal your tracks sometime and head that way....

We went to a wedding at Chrissiesmeer a couple of years back, stayed in the village, was great! Only problem we had was that the Billiard Room was doing duty as a Gin Tasting Venue that weekend too - so we went in to taste Gine - and they had no glasses....  :imaposer:  :imaposer:  :imaposer:

Thanks for the RR!!  :thumleft:
Yip Gin tasting building is still there and were serving on Sunday morning

Thanks Sidetrack for the invite and the opportunity to stretch the old Fugly's legs a little :thumleft: Also for the good company and the relaxed pace at the front :ricky:

I must admit that I had my reservations before the trip - the weather, the possible state of the roads and the fact that my foot was still not fully recovered from a recent injury. When we met up at the departure point it was raining steadily with heavy rain forecast for Middelburg - and so it turned out to be.

At the jump off point to the gravel / mud I chickened out and headed for Carolina on tar and a nice Wimpy breakfast whilst Sidetrack was plodding along somewhere in the mud  :peepwall:

The (tar) road from Carolina to Badplaas offered lovely scenery of green rolling hills the closer you got to Badplaas and was very enjoyable. Along that road I also started noticing a lot of birds (including large eagles) and cursed my stupidity for not at least bringing my small field binoculars along.

The overnight spot was a spacious house with a beautiful garden, rich in bird life - including a very elusive red-chested-cuckoo (piet my vrou). Internet photo below because he was impossible to spot

The pickings (braaipack) was a bit lean for a big specimen like me, but with the tranquility only found in the countryside out on a farm I was really enjoying the surroundings and started to really relax.

Great weather greeted us on the next day and the scenery around Chrissiesmeer was awesome as well.

On the way back we rode some varied dirt roads ranging from loose sand to mudpools and deep ruts - each sufficient to give me some HP (hart and poepol) moments. Sidetrack was nonplussed (he likes this stuff) but I am not the rider I used to be and not cut out for riding this type of terrain anymore. Problem is that I am too young for a Harley as well
