Hardy pray tell - whats going on with your axes? Where do they come from, differences, use. But most importantly where do i order
I am drawn to Scandinavian and Native american axes. I know about nothing about em though. Would like a utility camping ax for light/ medium wood chopping, branch clearing and general camp use. Some simple utilitarian, but with a bit of fair if you know what i mean. Some beautiful but practical. And protection on the handle for all my misses. Small, light..
Please share the knowledge
Ok - Short story. My grandfather believed that every man should have a good knife and a good axe. His axe was strapped behind his seat in his old Land Cruiser and I got to know from a young age what worked and what did not, as I tried my hand at making my own out of old leaf springs etc.
I would make the following suggestion: Buy either a Cold Steel or CRKT axe or tomahawk as a starter.
I like the tomahawks as they are relatively light, They chop & cut like an axe, but they have the classic look of hickory wood, and it is also a fantastic weapon. You can then modify, and detail it as you please. Leather is seriously cheap, as is the other stuff that will eventually find it's way onto the axes or tomahawks you modify.
I regrind mine, as I do not like the makers mark on the blades. I also use perma blue after the grinding to give the blades the used, fallout look.
I often burn the hickory handles to achieve the same weathered look. I will pm you the link to the supplier - let me know which shape you are interested in, as I have tried them all, and can save you school fees.
