Die dragstrip in humewood caravan park was nie baie lank met n deadstop in die heining en u turn terug.
Daar was so n ou met ligte hare wat daai jare se bmw kon ongelooflik wheelie op en af daardie dragstrip.

My memories from having seen those bikers on the open roads in the seventies going to a rally bring up words like “ruffians”, “hooligans”, “chain and yale”, “low-end”, “dangerous”, etc.

Where I now see those bikers on the roads, different words come to mind. Words more like “lawyers”, “dentists”, etc.

Die wildste ouens by n rally was altyd die accountants gewees. Reken oor hulle moet gesuite en tie elke dag moet wees.
As die ouens se koppe uithaak dan gaan hulle groot en erg hooligan. Maandag by die werk is hulle weer mooi respectable en stroopsoet :lol8:
Accountants = kakmakers of note

Thanks for posting the video, Jughead - brought back many memories.

I took these in either 1975 (most likely '75 - the year I bought my Olympus OM1 - for R350) , '76 or '77, while a student at UPE. While studying I was a photographer on the student newspaper UPEN, so I processed and printed all my own photos.
The camping ground was behind my parent's home in First Avenue Summerstrand, so we experienced the Buff each time it was held there, and I attended many in other centres after that.

I remember the Johannesburg Chapter of the Hells Angels turning up at a student dance in the Marine Hotel and they all shocked everyone by behaving like gentlemen!

Some of you might recognise yourselves or friends, as many are Cape Town bikes.

Dustbiter,

I think these photo’s might have been taken in ‘78 or ‘79. The CBX, in 1st picture, was only launched in SA in May of ‘78.

My brother was the Honda salesman at Stanmar Motors in George, they were the Honda agents at the time. On Mother’s Day, the CBX was introduced to the local bikers and I was gifted a Honda SS50 on the same day.

I never attended any of the Buffs in the 70's , a lil before my time on a big bike but have attended a number of Buffs over the years in PE and Mossel bay. Have attended a number of rallies all over ZA and damn I liked em, a lot.

Thanks for posting, this brought back so many memories of rallies and motorbikes and general rowdiness.

Born to lose, live to win!!

I remember as a high school laatie probably about 1981 or so, we were living in Welkom and had been in East London on holiday.
On the way back, two CBX 6 cylinder Honda's pulled up behind us. Man the site of those motors. Eventually managed to get a CBX in 2003.

I rode to the two Buffs held in Maseru, Lesotho..... Friggen cold and wet... Remember one biker never woke up after passing out in front of his tent.... died of hyperthermia :eek7:.
There were maljans riding scramblers up and down the hotel stairs and the p***smovies were very well attended.
5l cellarcask wine strapped to the carrier, box of Texan plains, small pup-tent and sleeping bag was all one needed! :laughing4: :ricky:

Those were the days! >:D :snorting: :lol8:
I live in my own world...

I was in school those days in PE near the beachfront. I used to pop over to the site to meet my uncle and his friends that were attending the BUFF. Great memories until I was old enough to attend myself but in Mossel Bay.

Love those old pics with the famous Red Windmill Roadhouse in the background
When in doubt...grab throttle!!!
