Who remembers Mad Martin ....now there was a character.
Did a few of those Buffs in my time.

Remembers Mad Martin well, he still featured on the front page of an old BikeSA on his customised Z1000. :thumleft: :thumleft:

I do believe that biking has none of those types left, pity.

I just had a second look at the video and old memories started comming back after all these years.
I still remember my mother always telling me to go and enjoy myself......just make sure I am not on the back page of the Sunday paper the Raport. :3some:
Second memory was on my trip there from JHB. I was sleeping over in Bloem. Told my BIL to wake ne up at 04h00 because I am going to the Buff. When he woke me up he told me it was minus 4 and I should consider staying. WHAT and miss a Buff......NEVER. I nearly died of the cold that morning but I got to PE to enjoy the rain and the mud.
Then on the mass ride the local traffic officers decided to have a GATSOMETER speed trap. So the okes rode very close formation and some oke in the middle just happens to pull some sparks with his centre stand and ripped the two gatsometer pipes clean off.
Then there was this oke with his big Goldwing I think. All the panniers everything on the bike. So he puts his front wheel against one of the poles lining the road. Slipped the clutch to do a burnout. Problem is that his wet front wheel and the wet pole did not work together. They missed each other. The bike went forward between the poles leaving all the panniers behind.
Another was standing at the food tents those okes with the scramblers covered everybody with mud.
Those were good old days. :laughing4:

Thank you @ethanvr and @Gérrard - I should have checked the basics: the Buff was held in PE at the Humewood Camping Ground in 1977 - 1979 (and was in Bloemfontein in 1975 & 1976), so the photos must be from '77 or '78, and as I was in the army in 1979 it was unlikely that I took these in 1979.

I have therefore altered my original reply. (I had just thought, as I had bought my first SLR - an Olympus OM1 - in 1975 that I had taken the photos then).
Bikeless at present

Life is great LIVE IT!!

Regtig goeie ou dae.  My heel eerste motorfiets, n Suzuki A80, het my Pa vir my gekoop by die sogge se Pa, oom Adendorff. Ek onthou nou, groot sog se naam was Leon Adendorff, en hy het n tyd lank

gewerk as Yamaha verkoopsman by van der Merwe se Yamaha handelaar in Birdstraat, oorkant waar die taxirank vandag is.

Who remembers Mad Martin ....now there was a character.
Did a few of those Buffs in my time.

Yes, well not me, but a mate of mine was there and he had some stories about Mad Martin. Had a Kawa 900 if I recall.

I remember Mad Martin at the Impala Rally reversing his Kawa into the skallow end of the pool, putting it on the centrestand and revving the bike in 5th gear, spraying water out in a huge ark until the friggen pool level dropped! :laughing4:
Everyone stood in the spray with their dops to cool down... :ricky: :lol8:
