Any one making use of Spot X tracking/Tracing devices?
« on: February 09, 2020, 09:01:14 pm »
Anyone got some info on any of these products? Got something rather exiting coming up and need something in this line.

https://www.findmespot.africa/product/spot-x/

They dont mention monthly subscriptions anywhere, is this so?

Thank you

Thank you Canz. I  also found a few handy links on YouTube. Still couldn't find clarity on subscription. I'll give them a call in the morning.

That is MUCH MORE affordable than a SAT PHONE

I do not want tracking as the family get a bit upset if the 'dot' stop in the middle of nowhere. I also might need to talk to a customer in an emergency and then the R30.00/minute might be worth it. >:D

Inmarsat is around R 800.00 inc PER MONTH and NO AIRTIME.  That is what they call 30 Day WINDOW only.  50 units (approx 30 minutes) is only about R 120.00.  Personally it is the biggest rip-off.  I paid R2500.00 for a secondhand (almost brand new) phone and only buy 30 day Window and airtime when needed. (about R950.00 incl a shot.)  I must say it is only an emergency tool for me but it was good to let the family know I am all safe during the solo trips where there was no signal where I camped.  1.5 minute phonecall.

I think Iridium contracts are much cheaper.  R 5000.00 per year for 300 minutes for a year window.

I would say the best option out there at the moment is the inreach devices, especially because it allows for two way messaging and has a variety of subscription options.

Got Spot for AMageza. 2015
Paid by credit card for subscription. Next year I canceled it. Still went off the card. Got a new card the next year. Still went off the card. Phoned them in USA to cancel.
When,t off again the next year. Reported it as fraudulent transaction. Spot phoned me from USA.
Never again.
