Yamaha 250 Bear tracker?
« on: February 10, 2020, 05:50:54 pm »
Not knowing much about quad bikes, I needed something to tow my small boat to the river and back. It's too difficult to turn around with my Land Rover, so the quad is hopfully the next best thing.
I'm not sure if it is going to be strong enough to pull the boat out, so might have to look at some different gearing options.
Anyone else ever tried to do this on a shaft drive?

The quad looks much like this

So you want to change the diff ratio?
Have not hear of someone doing that.
How big is your boat?

You could not get a better picture of you kwad bike? :eek7: :eek7:

If your boat is small, your Zumasaki quad should be perfect!

Zuma's physic could provide for excellent traction!

:laughing4:  Only fetching it on Wednesday, so no pics yet. I doubt I will take any either.

I've found a few merrican reviews that say it can pull 800 pounds with ease, but find it hard to believe. At a guess, the boat and trailer will weigh about 250 kgs, then there is a bit of a hill to go out, so not sure if the clutch/ motor will handle it?
I like the idea of a drive shaft, but tricky to change ratios. I might have to add in a reduction drive. Will see once I get it if there is space to adapt one to the gearbox.
the other option is to add a winch to the front of the ATV

I pull my empty bike trailer with my 250 quad. It does it in first gear on level ground. I would not want too load it or drive faster. The quad would not be happy and something will give in time.

Should work a treat. I tow a trailer with feed all over the farm with my Yamaha Bruin 250 (same bike as the bear tracker).

Maar my 2c

Thanks for the info. The 350 4x4 was what I was actually looking for, but none to be had?
Picked up the quad this morning and when for a quick ride. It goes well, but haven't checked its pulling ability.
I see the back tyres are shot, so if any one has any half worn ones, I would be glad to buy them. New is not an option, for the amount of time it will be used.
