Love them or hate them, irrespective they looked cool in Easy Rider and they are part of the biking family.

Now the other day I had a look at the new released Triumph Rocket 3 and read a few reviews. In the process of reading one particular review, it struck me - can that bike ever be turned into a chopper, bobber or even a café racer? Not picking on Triumph here, taking any recently produced bike, would one ever be able to chop or bob these bikes now being manufactured? What would you chop (or bob, or drop, or shorten) off the bike? And how? In the case of Triumph the manufacturers had already stripped the bike from around 360kg to 290kg. What’s left for you to do? There goes your café racer potential. Same with a lot of other margues.

In fairness, how will you chop / bob a BMW R1250? But wait, the manufacturer has already done that for you with the BMW R nine. That leaves you with changing the decals and paint scheme? Installing a mini Cray, boosting the plugs, fitting seven more lights, each using less voltage, altering the headlamp glass colour, etc.

A point made here: HOLD ONTO YOUR OLD MACHINES. They are becoming fewer and fewer and cannot be replaced. Whether you do end up bobbing / chopping them or not, at least you will always know that you CAN.
