my First Harley
bought this VRod new in 2006.........loved this bike ......only problem is they have very small tanks and you end up riding from garage to garage

bike has a very much drag bike feel........
used to race my mate shaun on his KTM 950.........hehehe he can tell you how this bike did.....goes like a bat out of hell

today you can pick them up fairly cheap as they been discontinued by harley and many owners dont put too many km on them......they come in a few versions ie  night rod etc

A couple of years ago me and 2 nephews did a SA trip for 2 weeks, Night rod, KTM 990 R and GS Adv. The Night rod was faster then both the KTM and GS but boyoboy, you need to hold on at 200km + without any wind protection. the most comfortable was the GS (Yes we shared bikes ) The KTM was the most fun but after 6 hours in the seat your ass was feeling it. The Night rod was filled up at every little town, but it gave us the opportunity to see so much of this beautiful country.

Iirc, the VRod engine was a collaboration between Porsche and HD engine designers?

I can't remember what exactly it was, but there wasn't much room between the engine and frame, thus the engine had to be removed for valve inspections or cam inspection, my memory fails me.

my dad and i fitted an aftermarket tank from the states to get an extra few litre capacity............we literally had the bike in half to get to fit the tank.......not a lot of space to move on the vrod for sure

this may push up the prices on second hand harleys however

its the right course of action..rationalise the products to save costs. Instead of having the huge range streamline models. Harley wont lose too many sales from this strategy i believe.

I have a new favorite, seems like I will be getting a Fatboy some day!

I like the Sportster particularly because its still closest to a bike for me. The couches I always feel like you could just as well be in a car, its so big.
But this thread is definitely changing my opinion.

Should i ever buy another harley it would be the break out ..that is sex on wheels...

keep the tourers and highway mile eaters... iwill tour on a brake out with a tool bag and a bed roll... like a cowboy
