I finally got my couch back after lockdown it had to get a new factory fitted engine because of a "sumping" issue......google it if u are curious

short version no power all the oil lies in the crank and not pumping to the rest of the motor...

also because i insisted as the motor had gotten hot on two occasions.......

anyway HD stood by their warranty and ordered me a new motor

so i been spending since Thursday when i got it until Sunday running it in for them to do the 1000km oil change service

fortunately i get a new 2 years warranty on the motor

just got her back from Tygervalley after oil change all clean and ready to go...again ....besides the inconvenience it cost me nothing

although i now have reservations about harleys reliability now........this being the 2nd CVO i have had with engine trouble

hopefully they fixed it now and i am good to go

was very nice to get some riding in on this beast the weekend

i christened her "Black Betty" after the song...........

Mother how much "heavier" does the Harley feel between your legs compared to your GSA?

i dont find the hd heavy at all because all the weight is low down

i compare my couch with a bmw LT i used to have ......the hd was easy to manoeuvre because of the hd being lower in stance and the weight of the motor

no buffeting issues at all

my view is because she sits closer behind me.........she hasn't complained about this once on any of the Harley's
and we have ridden thousands of km together

she used to complain a lot about buffeting on my BMW LT and this had an adjustable screen..........put this down to the fact she sat further from me and was continuously affected by the wind swirling around me

Sorry to hear about your engine troubles Mother I really thought Harley engines are like Cat's and Cummins, hardly ever give trouble? :(

Sorry to hear about your engine troubles Mother I really thought Harley engines are like Cat's and Cummins, hardly ever give trouble? :(

yip me too until i started having a few problems of my own

problem is they had oil pump issues on the latest Milwaukee 8 motor they on the 4th generation pump now

thing is when these fail so does the motor

on the 110 cube motor it was something to do with the push rods and if not caught in time motor goes too

I'm not a tech buff but these were my two experiences

the 110 cube motor failure was very expensive for me as i lost 120k value on my bike as it was outside warranty ........a sore point and long story for another day

I've experienced  other manufacturers having issues........not that this makes it right by no means
like bmw front shock yoke
drive shaft failure....experienced personally
rear shock failure....experienced personally

Africa twin
speedo shaft failure....experienced personally
petrol pump failure.....experienced personally

yes i know not all as expensive or maybe as major

but they happen

i now have a fresh two year warranty on my HD 117

my Road king is a 103 cube and hasn't given a days drama.......also read good reviews on these engines

hopefully Harley has sorted out their kak now

my advice to anyone wanting to buy a particular model is check the internet or do a bit of research you will see which model has issues and which doesn't

some times speak to a good specialised techie vs a salesman

these are all lessons i learnt in hindsight

Must say I have ridden various Harleys but would take an Indian any day over a Harley.... :thumleft: ;)

The Indians just feel more alive and better built, and the handling is on another planet compared to Harley imo...
