@Just Blip It! recently took the 390 for a test ride

Decided to take the new KTM 390 Adventure for a spin today. Climbing on the bike I was immediately comfortable as it adapts nicely to the general KTM riding position. It fits nicely even if you are a taller rider. The fancy little TFT screen is clear, legible and informative with the KTM my ride apps you can navigate, connect your phone and your helmet coms too! Changing settings of traction control and ABS is a simple to do. Out on the tar the bike feels nimble and “chuckable” in the tight stuff. The engine revs freely and pulls very well through the rev range, actually quite impressive considering it’s size! On the dirt it inspires confidence, the Offroad ABS works extremely well, the bike is well sprung for what it is, but you will have to tackle the rougher sections at a slower speed, the 19” front wheels steers efficiently and you can even get the back out with a bit of aggressive riding.
A beautiful warm sunny lowveld day inspired me to twist it a bit on the gravel, jumping a few jumps and bumps I was impressed at how stable the little bike was, a comfortable standing position too. Coming at speed around a corner I was suddenly face to face with a large cobra who was rather aggressive standing up high, head flat and ready to strike, thanks to the great brakes and agile handling I stayed out of his striking range and we both parted ways as suddenly as we met! The Adrenalin pumping I slowed down and 2km later just as my heart was coming out of the red what do I see crossing the road in again? A massive 2.5 to 3m rock python slithering gracefully across the road. I stopped and tried to get my phone out to get a shot of this majestic beauty. Unfortunately he was in a hurry and I missed getting a pic. Now rather shaken I continued cautiously for a while, before long i was at pace again. What a great little bike with a big heart, impressive for its size. I turned round and headed back toward the tar, not without encountering yet another green boomslang crossing the road again, by now I just wanted to get off the road! 3 snakes in 5 km was enough for one day! I arrived on the N4 in a cloud of dust and was quickly up to the national speed limit and beyond, 140 and 150 quite achievable. Returning back to KTM Nelspruit I handed the bike back to Hennie, what an adrenalin fueled ride, the lowveld roads always deliver great riding with some surprises along the way! In conclusion....... the 390 Adventure is fantastic value for your suffering Rand ( R85000) the bike is impressive for its size, a great little commuter that can adventure on weekends. It needs a performance pipe, but that all, it is what it is and it delivers well for what it is. Well done KTM!
