CONUNDRUM!: Scale model motorcycles.
« Reply #101 on: March 26, 2020, 08:27:18 am »
Fellow WD's, I have a CONUNDRUM!

am thinking of offering 2Stroke Dan an unbuilt TAMIYA 1/12 scale kit, for him to build (and keep) during the 'time of Corona'....

Problem is, the box contains a small BMW roundel, and I do not want him do suffer an allergy ('propeller allergy') during this time, when he needs his immunity to be up there...

Its a BMW K100 kit - what would YOU do?  ;)

hey growweblaar, I see these kits are selling for R2000 each! Tsoe!

Ja!  :P

If it was half-price I would have taken it, but at that price I can get some pannier racks or BoosterPlug for the 800  ;D

I've started my son on the hobby as well, he's 11. Have built 2 Airfix models so far, a plane and car. I do the painting (hand, brush) and he does assembly and decals
He loves it! It's such a nice thing for dad and son to do together. Got him a new plane for corona lockdown.

I want to get myself a detailed model sometime, pref a motorcycle. I remember buying models with my pocket money at school - had almost everything they sold! Now you have to save up to get one  ???

To give you an idea of some of my collection
The wooden ships is what I am doing now. They take a lot more time and patience.

If I was Chris, I would have insisted that Dan takes this kit. :pot:

Early in the production of these bikes, I worked for a motorcycle courier in Cape Town, and due to us using BMW R80ST's for the daily trips, we had a strong affiliation with Trefco BMW.

Don Fullard asked me to ride a K100RS up to the Bloem dealer, and I remember enjoying this very short trip quite a lot, as it was a fast bike.

Really good detail on that F1 car!  Who is the kit by?

That Galleon!  Went to visit the marine museum in Lisbon about 3 years ago, and what a delight. Their scale models are exquisite.

The F1 1/12 scale are Tamiya. Hard to find and expensive. The ships are VERY expensive but you will be busy for a long time. That particular galleon one I timed my build at 200 hours

Deal:pop in today, IF YOU CAN, and it's yours: could be a nice project for you to build in the next 3 weeks!
All I want in return is a pic of the finished item eventually!
Cheers, Danie

Anyone know the manufacturer of this Laverda 750 SFC model?  It's been gathering dust for at least 35 years by me. Obviously needs a bit of TLC, I think there are a couple of small parts missing but free to anyone interested in collecting it.  Walkerville, Rick 0741619611.

Just finished this Laverda SFC750, a 1/9th scale model by Revell, given to me by Richard [Greeny].

It gave me many hours of sheer pleasure.

Thank you Richard!
