Great stuff, Dorsland. Your goats are a lot fatter than these poor things. I doubt whether those spoilt buggers would last a day out here. Even the cattle have learnt to browse and they are just skin and bones

Pretty bad drought at present. As you can see the bark has been stripped off the scrub and trees and quite a lot of the sheep have died. Even the camels look scrawny.

@ Frankmac: ai man, not good to see livestock in such poor condition.  Sad to say but the problem gets exponentially worse as the vegetation is destroyed. When it does eventually rain, the plant is so damaged it cannot effectively utilize the rain, erosion occurs, water retention is almost zero, livestock dies, the next drought is even worse. Vicious circle.

What work are you doing up there?

I'm involved with drilling materials and logistics in the oil & gas exploration industry

These guys all know what the problem is as a few livestock owners work on site here but no-one is going to reduce their herds. Rather have 100 stunted animals than 10 healthy specimens.
Likewise with multiple wives and children and none of the animals are sold to improve their lives. Very sad

Thought I would add some of mine from my recent trip to Coetsers Island (Shalimpo), Botswana.

Sunset:

Sun rising over the Limpopo: (The trees you can see on the opposite side of the Limpopo are on South African soil :) )

Love is the feeling you get when you like something as much as your motorcycle.
