Malgas One Nighter
« on: April 20, 2020, 08:39:07 am »
Malgas Weekend

The weekend before lock down all the signs were there that we were going to be forced into Isolation.......they had just enforced no liquor sales after six and lunch time on weekends

And My Wife's birthday was coming up

So a trip was quickly put together

We decided on Malgas
one because it had a Hotel to spoil the missus
two because i like crossings on Pontoons
and thirdly some nice scenic gravel roads in the area

we left Cape Town early Saturday Morning and headed up via Franschoek first for a nice breakfast and then the beautiful scenic pass

from Franschhoek we took the route across the dam wall from Villiersdorp and then left on dirt road up till the Villiersdorp N2 connecting tar road then back on Gravel to Greyton
for me it was nice do do something different for a change
and there was hardly anyone on the back roads

In Greyton we stopped at the Coffee Garden to Coffee and Cake.........remember it was my wife birthday and spoiling had to apply  :ricky:

One night one post?
Does your wife not like a top box behind her? I would have thought the top box would be on before the panniers? Just asking.

after being overwhelmed by Protem we continued on all the scenic dirt farm roads until we got to Malgas coming in from the Bredasdorp side

certainly beautiful and peaceful these back roads

at Malgas Hotel we met up with a group of riders from Cape Town who also had the same plan for the weekend with their wives

Malgas is definitely a nice place to take your wife and get in a bit on nice motorcycle riding off the beaten track

Malgas Hotel was a nice stay and they offered a 5 course meal which was really nice
drinks were limited to cold drinks only because of the marshal law declared by the government .........luckily we had brought our own stash so it wasn't too bad celebrating my wifes birthday after all

Next morning we headed out being the only ones on the Pontoon

we headed on the gravel road to Swellendam with the idea of going to Barrydale for a milkshake...........it was still Leonie's Birthday weekend incase we forget this

After Barry dale our homeward route was the scenic ride to Montagu then up through the Koo Valley to the N1 near Touwsriver
from here we doubled back to Ceres and finally Bains Kloof pass to home

one really nice final ride before lock down kicked in

M
After lockdown mine would be "silver" too, remains to be seen if she will stay silver though. ;)

The "town" of Protem is where I delivered the harvest we had every year on the farm I worked on nearby. The stories I heard from the old farmers waiting in line to deliver would fill books. Especially friday nights. Then I was the designated "pull every vehicle closer in liner" when there is a gap and the rest would have a big braai. Great times!! :thumleft:

Sorry for the high jack.

Thanks for the ride report and all the beautiful photos.

After reading this on day 25 of lock down I am really missing riding my bike.

Nice ride report. Proof that one can do a one nighter with a spouse and have a really lekker ride. Certainly inspiring for when I think I don’t have time or mates for a proper ride. Just get on the bike and go. I certainly miss riding.
