My friend Jack Fitzpatrick and I en route to Keurbooms River caravan Park at Plet for Christmas camping.  This is the bridge over the (River Kwai) Orange River on the N1.  He had unzipped his jacket as it was dam hot and a bee flew in and stung him.  He was not a happy chappie on this pic.

My luggage was a bag from Pep Stores, normal bungee cords, my army slaapsak.  How did we manage before Kriega, Wolfman, Enduristan, Rok straps, First Ascent and so on?  :lol8:

On the bank behind Jack is where River Destiny Lodge stands today.

Netso GPZ1100 gehad . Dieselfde kleure net Bassani 4 in to 1 opgehad. Hy is gesteel op 11000km.
Later weer een gehad met custom sprayjob, 1170 wiseco pistons, gasflowed head etc Van al my bikes was die era en bike my beste gewees.
As time washes by, our footprints are all for naught

My daring dabble with an Italian, Laverda RGS1000.  Most solid bike I have owned and an exhaust note like music.  Not loud, melodious. On my way across the Eastern Highveld near Standerton.  Hit a lightning and hailstorm from hell not long before that.  It was icy cold.  No heated grips, heated vests or other moffie stuff.

Ek was spuls vir so 'n GPZ @subie.

There is NOTHING as much fun as this NS400R Honda on the road between I think Shelly Beach and Richmond in Natal.  Bliksem!

I must have had the most long-suffering girlfriend back then.  We did 2-up along the coast from PE to almost into the Transkei on my TT500. Lived rough and tumble for 10 days.  Camped with absolutely basic kit.  Hell, we were keen on each other back then.  The roads life takes with us hey....

As ek reg onthou was die
GPZ1100  so R5200 of daar rond.  My XJ750 yamaha was so R1900 gewees.
Eddie Lawson was n baie begeerlike bike gewees vir my.

Many moons ago there was an article in the Bark SA about a Euro couple on two XT500's that toured South America.
On some big river they mounted the bikes on a barge and rigged a waterwheel to the back wheel of both bikes to power the barge. They even had a mistspray water system to cool the bikes down cause they worked at idle speed.
In Patagonia they rigged the two bikes together and put a sail between them and traveled like that because of the constant high winds in that country. Riding on one bike was just too dangerous because of the winds.

I have searched the internet but cannot find anything about the trip.

Ja my paar goedjies is altyd in army grondseiltjie toegerol.
Daai plat 750ml bottels
brandewyn of vodka kon heeltemal in sy binnesak inpas. Optoer  baie keer sommer op die teels geslaap in die mans toilette by petrol stasies ens afhangende hoe dronk ons was. Natuurlik was daar te alle tye n tweede helmet agterop  vasgemaak. Meisies was daar altyd wat wou saamry n bietjie .  :ricky:

Ja, waaragtig Chris.  Ek kyk nou net daai kiekie van my TT500.  Ek sien my meisie se slaapsak was sommer so in 'n Checkerssakkie ingeprop vir die reën.  :lol8:

Daai einste meisie is vandag 'n wêreldberoemde keramiekkunstenaar. Dalk kon ek vandag 'n "kept man" gewees het.  :imaposer: :imaposer: :imaposer:

I always wanted an XT500 or XT250 when I was in high school
Friend of mine had a maroon coloured XT250

We all at some stage had a Nava, Lafe or a Bell helmet

"Lafe".  I'd forgotten about that helmet brand.

What about Supertrapp exhausts?  They still around?

As ek diep rondkrap hier in my kaste gaan ek 2 XT en TT brosjures en/of advertensies uitkrap.

Ek dink ek het sulke posters agter my slaapkamerdeur opgeplak eerder as Scope dollies.

Is it because we've got older and jaded or because the world has changed Wayne?  Maybe a combination of both.  But I get the feeling youngsters of today certainly don't have the level of freedom we had back then.
