I was at the 2012? Buffalo rally, when a guy revved the shit out of his spotless and standard K9 GSX-R. I asked him whether, when he sells it, he will word the add as "as-new condition, never raced"?

He told me to fuck off.

When the Suzuki GSX-R1100 first appeared on the SA market, they were tested on SABC TV, cannot remember who were testing, but it reached a top speed of 266KPH, much

to the amazement of the public.

More that 30 years later, superbikes have only added just over 30KPH to that topend.
Yes but think since the Hayabusa - Blackbird - ZX12 era they rather focused on handling and weight vs top speed. What does a H2R do ?

H2 about 350, and the R has been clocked just over 400KPH.

most of the development has been on suspension and safety, The top speed issue being limited by the Euro countries anyway so no point in really building a bike capable of 400km/h cos you cant sell it without restricting it.

The manufacturers came to an agreement regarding that as i understand it.

They do restrict the bikes somewhat, and it seems 299 is the magic number.

Attending the Rhino rally early 90`s at Orkney, this oke was camping on the little island at the entrance c/w caravan etc. He started revving and spinning a 750cc Pre Sling on the Friday, once the tire was gone he revved it flat out, locking the throttle in the open position, went for a fresh dop came back, carried on revving, only died once it ran out of fuel. Fill it up and carried on, when we left on the Sunday he was still carrying on, but it was on it`s way out. Tough engines those Sazboxes

Stellenbosch long-suffering little bike shop, Stellenbosch bikes, belong to Herman Geldenhuys.

Herman had a pre-sling many years ago, and for two years he revved the shit out of that machine at every opportunity, usually daily.

One evening he was at it again, on the pavement in front of the old Castle bar, when a valve broke off it's head, which went straight through the piston.

Luckily no fire, but Herman's oil spillage, a line about 5 meters long out the exhaust, left a mark on that pavement that lasted years.

If forced to an answer on the question of the toughest engine ever in a motorcycle, it would be the oilcooled pre-sling GSX-R.

It is said when Suzuki designed the 750 Pre Sling motor they tested it to the extreme and whatever failed they just made it stronger

An uncle of mine in PE had 7 pre-slings in succession and he crashed every single one beyond repair, most of them on the back wheel, he was eventually deemed un-insurable. He used to have them sprayed godawful bright colours like solid canary yellow by some pretty famous fabricator named Louis something, was cool to perv over when I was a laaitie but looking back... My mom used to hate the guy, he'd drop a donut outside our house after a visit which usually involved a bottle of brandy.

What about the aircooled GSX motor........? I don;t think that it's actually possible to blow one of those things up.

To find one is SA that hasn't been pulled through someones ass and other the other side might be a challenge. Largely regarded as the best bike to take to a rally to set the fires alight at 1am  :o
