What does one do in these crazy times with a bored 19 year old? ... well, we all know that they can get up to all kindsa shite if we ignore them, so I decide to take her on a local adventure ride.

But first, her ID - so there is no political drama on this child friendly forum. Yep, proof that she was born in December 2001.

She's normally dressed like this;

But just for you, she's willing to go naked for this ride.

Nice little number, ne?

Unlike most 19 year olds that I know off, she is keen on Botany ... as in tree's ... local trees. Here she's getting a close look at two; a local edible Sea Grape in the lower foreground and an imported Australian Casuarina in the background. Both hardy trees that flourish in this harsh climate of sand, sun and sea.

My personal favorite; the Bismarckia.

Then follows the Island Ficus.

The last of the late blooming Bougainvillea.

And the soon to bloom Frangipani.

In my neighbourhood there's lotsa rules 'n regulations;

Some odd looking gates too ...

... but that's the exception, most are nice and humble, as we see whilst we continue to explore.

These two majestic gents are Royal Palms.

But all are outnumbered by the humble Palm, either imported from Jamaica or Malaysia.

We see lovely big houses, nice driveway that one has.

Some are still working on their driveway ideas.

... but most houses here have long since decided on what their driveways will be.

I know that this driveway is for rent through the Club.

... and other have such lekker names.

Living between 2 and 6 meter above Sea level means there are lots of canals with fancy boats floating about in them. My 19 year old is fascinated but also quite scared of water, her boots are not really waterproof.

We continue our Adventure Ride and stop at another huge Island Ficus tree. Majestic but fragile as they have a shallow surface root system and are prone to toppling over in strong winds ... like in bloody hurricanes for example.

Here on the right we have a Kamalame Tree (or Gumbo Limbo in the US of A) and on the left an ultra rare Bahamian Mahogany.

For at least the last 14 years this has been an abandoned wreck of a house, great to see someone has new driveway ideas for it.

We stop to look at Castles and Haciendas built side by side, with Poincianas in the foreground.

Scattered amongst all this is some green untouched lots that can be bought and built upon if the need takes you. This one has a view over the Golf Course.

Local signs point out that kids have right of way to play ... my 19 year old likes that indeed.

... but are kids allowed to play on grown ups Golf Courses? ... we'll investigate.

This is a driveway to an office block; Bahamas style that is.

The Biggest Tree Here Is The Silk Cotton Tree ... it has right of way in the middle of the big circle ... known as a round-a-bout out here. For once my 19 year old is speechless ... a very rare occurrence I can assure you. Usually one can't tell them anything as they know it all.

There is also a lovely Wild Almond Tree right on the main road too.

In my neighbourhood there are also driveways for boats ... big boats. Today is nice and quiet. Where is everyone we wonder??

My impatient-to-move-on 19 year old asks why I am staring at this big sail boat? ... I tell her in another life I sailed into this marina in 1991 on a 77ft sail boat that was to change my entire life. She is totally unimpressed ... teenagers today!

The crew on the boats in the marine have their very own Caribbean Private Beach.

Way back in 1951 when the Gent who bought this swamp needed to fill it in, they dug canals and used the fill as landfill. Today one plot like this is the equivalent of what all 2000 acres of swamp cost back then. The locals though he was nuts.

Note quite as exotic as Nonekings neighbourhood but we do have some real Bahamians here too. This is a Rainbow Boa (pity no clear sunlight on her but one can just about see the shine on the skin) ... she is about 2m in length, tranquil, completely wild, and has lived peacefully on our 8acre plot for 9 years now. There are 3 males around too that I see once a month or so. For now she lives about 10m front my front door.

Unfortunately, 3 weeks ago the water meter reader guy nearly killed her as she had made a nest in his water meter box ... I drove by just as he started beating on her with a PVC pipe ... lets just say he has seen the light since then and will let my fcuking snakes live in peace going forward. Its been a while now but she looks a little better today.

Some folks hide their driveway projects behind fancy camo netting ...

At least the local dogs have been taught to pick up and deposit after themselves ... not like most of the other dogs I know.

I'm starting to hear comments about food and sleep from my 19 year old so deduce it's time to head home, but first I show her that some houses here have Golf Courses as their back gardens.

When a Coconut Palm tree has its crown broken off or blown off by a hurricane it is for all intents and purposes dead, as can be seen by the three in the background of these shots.

With the 19 year old fed and asleep, the old folks have time to play.

Some gate crashers float past.

That is seriously beautiful.I am jealous for sure.Is that St Francis bay or somewhere or have I missed the point.That Yammie looks unused.Amazing how a person always wnat to kill a snake at 1st sighting without realizing how beneficial they actually are.
