:deal:

Broaden your horizons and include the Africa Twin and KTMís , donít ask for advice on social media as to which is best , none of us are you , so test ride them yourself and decide

I would suggest the same. Include the AT. They are apparently very comfortable on the open road and very capable off it as we know. I see there are decent ones available near your budget, even a few dct models.

Ja, I always liked the AT's.........and the new ones' test reviews were VERY positive. Seems like a good "mix" bike, I just dont like DCT and all that gadgets, ek ry nie eers automatic karre nie >:D

I sold the S10 for the AT. Got the manual box one instead of the DCT that was my first intention. Now I am 100% sure the next bike will be the AT DCT Adventure.
1978. It's 6am, mid winter...two up on a XL 185S ... off to my first casino ever with all of R40 and we've got a full tank of fuel, so enough to get there we reckon.... that's determination...

Old bike: '82 Eddie Lawson Replica Replica.
Other bike: '05 Honda Varadero 1000
New bike: '16 Honda Africa Twin.

Of all the bikes mentioned I would go the AT route , I have ridden all of the others and the AT is in my mind the most user friendly of the lot , the only negative is that ai donít have one

Nou so bietjie opgelees - lyk na BAIE BAIE nice bike, BAIE nice "compromise" tussen highway en gravel en dan daai technical stuff ook nog.

Maintenance klink vir my duur........of nie??

My GROOT ding op die AT klink my hy is nice vir kortgatte soos ek - 1.76m.

Maar ja my gat jeuk maar net nou onnodig - het nog nie eens met daai 600 meer as 3 km gery nie O0

En die Blonde Antie gaan my NIE glo as haar vertel ek het 'n AT op 'n auction vir net R 40 000 gekry nie :peepwall:

Jy sÍ jy het ho per ongeluk gekoop. Ek kom elke keer daarmee weg. As jy kortgat is is die XT1200 meer geskik. Laagste an al die genoemde bikes.

Buy the one you like. The one that makes you lus to ride it. The one that makes your heart beat a bit faster, the one that you lie in bed thinking about you next trip with. That's the one.

I had the launch (2010) model Yamaha for 3 years - nice quality bike, but I yearned for more power after simultaneously also riding a friends BMW, but hated the pistons on the sides - KTM launched the 1190 in 2013 and I bought one - what a massive change in power!! Much more exciting bike - I bought the 1290 in 2015 without even test riding it - lovely bikes! Maybe not as reliable as the XT, but a lot more fun

Yes, the KTM's are amazing when it comes to power and handling, very sport-oriented.

BTW, thanks for the kind words. :thumleft:

Thanks so far

Yes, I've ridden Airheads before (80 and 100), had an 1150 also for a while, so I guess I am "biased" to the Germans in a way........but sommer just browsed around last night, and read reports in here, and it seems like the ST is a VERY low maintenance, no issues bike. And I honestly never even knew it had a diff, too.

And seems like great value...........I mean, that ST above on Gumtree, R 80000 for a 24000km bike.......!!!

Will look up some specs later - what engine, features, etc etc.

But yes - again, looks like a VERY VERY nice gravel tourer!!! :laughing4:
Petri Oosthuizen from the states, the Orange Free states... I gather you're the same one as on 4x4Community?

Welkom hier!

Not to be pedantic, and you probably know this, but the Yamaha does not have a diff. I'm sorry, there's no difflock on this one either. :lol8: Neither do the BMW's, for that matter.

But I'm sure you knew this. ;)

Whichever bike you get, have lots of fun riding it and know, the best bike to have is the one you have with you. :thumleft:
