What are you planning to ride ?

I have the 2020 FE 350 ... which is an awesome bike for me. I tried the 2020 TE300 and well, I didn't get along with it.

I like the FE, because one can make it road legal and the motor is just stunning. I was thinking about using it for the KR2020 this year.

Go to Eddy and ride both.

Cheers
Mark

I have the 2017 KTM 350 XCF which is the same model as the Husky 350 fx. These bikes have more power than their enduro siblings. If you are going to do some techinal riding , then the FE would be your choice. If you are doing some single track riding and like power then the FX will be the right choice. Those bikes haul ass!!

The FX is not the motocross bike. My understanding that it is in between the FC and FE. Motocross engiine mapping+ suspension, but wider ratio gearbox and larger tank.

If you are never going to jump that bike on a MX track then buy the FE.

(yes, ive seen that you have seen its not an MX bike)

Its essentially an MX bike with some enduro trimmings.  It does not have MORE power, the delivery is just of such a nature that it snaps at you.  Probably about 5-10 guys in SA that can actually feel or handle the full power of the 350 FX

Also, 2nd hand FX = RACE BIKE AFTER A SEASON OR 2.  Also piss poor resale due to there lack of versatility or at least the public's perception thereof.

Here are some stats from KTM`s manuals: 2017 KTM 350 XCF  - Weight 100.2kg     Compression ratio - 14.0:1
                                                                     2017 KTM 350 EXCF- Weight 104.0kg     Compression ratio - 12.3:1

Also the cams are not the same. With that higher compression ratio the xcf will definately have more power.

I understand the actual differences, what i meant is that the peak HP is not 10HP more but the combined effect of all the other goods as you have pointed out which makes its power delivery angryAF.

Main differences in the motor are the SX head and cams, different fueling and timing, lighter flywheel, smaller tank etc.

Perhaps then my personal experience and opinion to go with the FE if you never plan on doing MX with the bike, the FE is just a much easier and more forgiving bike to ride and still has too much power for 99% of us mere mortals.

So why am I considering to change away from my beloved 300 2st?

I think am getting too old for the the kick of the 300 (Turned 55...) - I ride mostly in Macasser, single track sand with extreme hoops. When the power kicks in at the "wrong" time, the rider is left behind ;)
My right knee is close to replacement status...so I need a solid e-start

From my experience and your comments,
The FX floats over the hoops - the front is lighter, shocks are lighter and stiffer. The FE has a tendency to nose dive on the hoops (suspension, weight and less abrupt power?)
The FE has more powerfull electrical system - benefit to e-start
The FE has more flywheel weight (I think the gearing is also different
All in all, the FE might be softer on a aging body...
So I am leaning towards the FE....again
Anybody know of a low hr FE for sale?

I read only this bit..... then get a new one, with a happy button PLUS injection which makes it a tractor lower down?
Fuggenawesome ek se, and light on juice also - if you keep it there, if you'll let it scream (yeah, I know, sand....) then it still suips like the best of us  :P

Yes the FX will whip a 300s ass properly on sand and single track. The 350 FE will not disappoint you and is the best selling off road bike in KTM`s line up. Just by the way, I have a rekluse on my XCF and have done some proper technical riding with it and the starter + battery has not disappointed me even once.

Rekluse is somewhat forgiving.

I ran almost 600hrs on a 250FE which had no kickstart.  Never let me down either.

They dont make bad bikes these days, just horses for courses :thumleft: :ricky:

All I want to say to the off road enthusiasts...
Go and test ride a 350FX (or KTM xcf)...
So light it feels like a 2stroke.
More than enough power responsiveness
Angles and suspension works great - Took mine now twice to the sandy hoops and single track at Maccaser - Doing twice the speed with less body fatigue compared to the 300.
An absolute pleasure to ride. (Mine has a full Akro system, so the sound is also amazing.)
Mine is a 2019 model, bought 2ndhand. It has the 13T front sprocket already installed, which, apparently enhances trail riding "smoothness"
