What is a reasonable monthly premium for bike insurance?
« on: June 22, 2020, 07:29:59 pm »
Hi
As stand alone insurance for a bike, one worth between R200K and R250K what would be a reasonable monthly premium to pay for insurance?
I understand that cheaper is not better always, excesses etc, but some perspective is I have been quoted at Option 4 level for a new ADV bike. This excludes the extra I need to fork out for tracking stipulated by said insurance company. Im also a 50yr old geezer.
Would be interested to see your views.

Also depends on how long you've had your license as well as your claims history...

Everybody will try to charm you with price....................be very careful of a very low price, cause that means you usually
sit with a very high excess
.  Also be very cautious of possible additional excesses that could be applicable.

This is very very true. Need to compare apples to apples.

Since 50cc days then a big bike license at 18, if memory serves me correctly less than a week after my birthday cause my Dad gave me his XL200R as a BDay gift. Best present ever.
Never claimed for a bike accident or bike theft ever, and I only courier eggs for Miss Daisy  :angel11: :l :ricky:

I think that with all the mid life crises , your demographic may be high incidence one.
That combined with the large bike, large power, large price and ... up goes the premium.

 Nice to meet you Pot.

Fun fact: My oldman bought 2 new bikes at that time and traded in the stuff he had.
An MTX50 and the 200R, from Sharwoods Honda, bottom of Mount Rd in PE.
The 50 was for my sister and the 200 for him. I was only 14yrs at the time and inheritied the 50 on my 16th bday and the 200 when I was 18.
Many years later my pops still showed me the invoice for the bikes. The 50cc was R1050 rand and the 200 just over R2k. (if my grey matter still works?)
These would have been '83/'84 models. Times have changed.
