Motorcycle owners going for their test, and not having approved number plates are all unceremoniously failed on arrival.

It's not really news or new.

when I did my license 5 or 6 years ago.
some guys pitched up on superbikes with tiny custom plates.
We told them they'd fail the test if they didn't change em.
The took one look at my Vespa and decided to ignore my advice.
shame.
They Failed.

I had a tiny plate on my bike, but I taped a regular SABS approved one on top of it for the test.

When I enquired about the possiblity of purchasing a license I was told that the only requirement was a legal plate. ;)
Ended up doing it legally but make sure your bike it roadworthy.

Shame on Vespa CT.

Or you could do it the way I did it!

I rocked up there with an expired licence disk, by three days!

Did not even realise it was expired untill  the examiner pointed to it and asked where the new one was :(
You got to have a lot of balls, to play golf the way I do!

I was told that you could even fail if your helmet have a prominent visible knock.
Be careful of the words you say.
And keep them soft and sweet.
For you never know from day to day.
Which ones you'll have to eat.

when i went for my license,  the KLR's speedo wasn't working.
went past 4ways kawa and got someone to ride next to me at 25kph so i could 'feel it'
directly thereafter I went to westonaria and passed my test on an unroadworthy bike!!!

Agreed.
They definitely know about it.

My bike came with a regular sized SABS approved plate. I had to ask for the smaller plate.

Got mine with a small plate.

I bought a legal sized plate stick it on to the small one wiff double sided tape on my way to waltloo test station it vibrated off :o( KTM 640) I only realized it when we came out, told the officer he said " nee man moenie worry....."

Either he liked the 640 or it was my lucky day

The only plate I could get the morning of my test was a Huuuuge car one... so thats what I used, and then resized it on Sani a couple hours later

Did my licence in 1994 and even then I had to spend 10 minutes before going through pre-checks and things about the bike before getting on it for the test ride. It was made very clear even then that the vehicle needs to be roadworthy even before you start doing your test. Makes sense to me  :bueller:

Did it cost a lot?

Some officials accept really low bribes.

And you would ride with a helmet that has a visible knock? I don't think I would.

i was asked to return home and change my t shirt.
it was 1979 in alberton.
the t shirt had two pigs on it,one on top of the other,
underneath in big letters were the words "Makin Bacon"
i went back on my two stroke 750 kawasaki triple,i passed but the bike was awful to ride slow,it was too noisy, smoked like only an overrich two stroke can and had a notoriously hard clutch, bear in mind i was 19 and was  built like a matchstick  plus i  had already developed a distrust of authority ,[due to my riding antics]match this with me being a soutpeel and the instuctor was like all albertonians of that time,a throwback to the ultra conservative boere that formed the laager.
i do however remember a few of his words..........spelling isnt right but you'll catch it.
nee, fok, hoekom bring jy so klomp fokken kak heirso.
die fiets klink soos a fokken tarantaal wat sy ma soek!
jesus, nie fok! in hy rook soos a dooie parafeen bos wat op die brand gesit is,
waar kry 'n mens so fokken kak motorfiets?
wat mekeer sy motor? het hy op geblaas 0f wat?
and so with those words still rebounding around in my head,i double clutched and pulled a wheely away from alberton licence department, license firmly pasted in my black id book.............
We miss 100% of the shots we never take.
