We stopped for a regrouping and when Phil and Chris took their helmets off I could see we were all thinking the same thing. "we didn't foresee this"

The pass would soon show the worst was yet to come with some hairy 90 and 90+ turns and steep drops.

What made it even more intimidating was the large rocks that would jerk the front wheel into the direction of the ravine.

We all would really be tested.

Phil dropped his bike after our regroup, hence Chris walking down the pass to see if he was ok.

We all breathed a sigh of relief at the top of the pass

Thanks for sharing.

How does the KTM compare to the BMW 800?

How did the tyres (KAROO3 I think) handled the gravel and how much % wear did you get on the back on this journey?

Hi Chicco,

I find the suspension harder on the KTM but it seems that the harder your ride it the better it wants to perform. I am by no means a suspension guru, just perception.

It took me about 800k's to get used to the gear changing partly due to wearing proper MX boots for the first time. I had a 2012 800 which came out with a windshield that is the size of a postcard. I remember having tried everything to get rid of buffeting and it drove me crazy. Eventually bought a Desierto screen and shortly after that sold the bike to buy a 1200 :(

The Karoo 3 did well in my opinion. No weaving or headshake at all. Doing 140 on tar and 110 on dirt, again maybe slow for some folk on this forum.

EDIT: I dont think I'm going to see 6000km on them sadly

The Tankwa opened up and we were all relieved that we made it up and down without incidents. Some close calls but no one hurt.

At some point I also thought about all the rocks and slate potentially puncturing a tyre but thankfully nothing of the sort.

We had to open and close some gates which makes it all the more fun.

Sightings of game included Ostrich , Oryx and Steenbok. We heard baboons up in Koedoesberg.

We headed towards the Tankwa padstal where we planned on having lunch and then doing the Katbakkies pass. The padstal wasn't open, maybe due to lack of traffic on the R357. The plan was to then head to Op die berg over Katbakkies but Chris had other ideas.

He "missed" the turn off after leading us and we headed straight towards Ceres for a very late lunch, burger and chips. I think his butt couldn't take the 800 seat any longer.
