too heavy, twith the radiator full, the engine oiled up and the fuel tank full it weighs the same as a gs.
Impossible nothing can be as heavy as a GS

Saw one standing at Bikers Warehouse this morning.

Flippit dis mooi   :thumleft: - much better than in the pics and videos.

It is a demo unit available for test rides - don't hesitate you know you want one... >:D

I didn't ask the price  :peepwall:

I bought my wife a 2021 KTM Adventure L (as it is titled on the KTM website and handbook, not an S as referred to by everyone else) with full tech pack, for her to use and me to decide if I really need / want an R.

What an amazing little bike. She moved to it from a lowered 1050 Adventure, and an NC700 before that. We are planning for 3 weeks of adventure touring over the coming holidays so I took her for a build-up about 2 weeks ago - we rode to Loskop Dam, camped for the weekend, rode dirt on the Saturday, back home on Sunday. She was happy as a pig in shit and quite happy with riding dirt again and she is quite excited about our coming holidays.

So I was wandering why so much happier to ride since trading her 1050 Adv. On the weekend at Loskop, after hail and a thunderstorm I took her 890 out for a muddy test ride. I was amazed at how well this bike handles dirt. Far better than my 1190 but a bit cramped for me. On return to camp I told my mates so they offered their 790 Adv Rs to try (one with std suspension, one with upgraded suspension). So I rode all 3 back-to-back and in my view the 890 Adv L is better than the the 790R for adventure dirt riding, but the height is perhaps a little low (the R is a little too high).

With that experience in mind I was keen to ride a Norden which on paper is right in the middle of the L and R in terms of height and the ergonomics and geometry (rake and trail) are also claimed to be different. So I went to see, prod and test the Norden on Saturday. What did I find:

It is indeed less cramped and more comfortable, being 2cm taller than the L but 2cm shorter than the R is perfect for me. The ride, handling and feel is also perfect for me (even with 43mm forks - which KTM were using on the 520 EXC years ago without complaints). On the tar it is as planted as the 890 L and better than the R. I am pretty sure that it will be great for adventure touring on and off road (maybe not extreme enduro touring, for that I have a 500 EXC).

So do I want one??? No - it is the fugliest of fuglies. I will rather buy an 890 Adv R and lower it by 2cm and tweak the suspension to feel as good as the Norden.

KTM needs to hire designers who can make bikes look good again

They didn't that is the answer, they built race bikes, then put them on the streets, now the marketing department, stylists and accountants rule.  :sip:
The guys say they can do a Pistol on their 3D printer, not impressed I have had a Canon printer for years.

That comes as a bit of a surprise.
Roughly same price as 890 R, obviously with riding modes the 890 doesnít have as standard and without the proper suspension

I got a bit of a discount when I paid my deposit, was closer to 240thou. I think by the time you factor in the inevitable 2022 890R increase it will be cheaper, not by much; as per the rest of the world.
Now we wait. Told mid to end January; hope they got them on the ship before Austria went into it's latest lockdown!

Took a look at it on Thursday. Stunning bike in the flesh, pics don't do it justice at all.
People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day. And doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something.
