Rietfontein - a fortified farmhouse

Its news time again! This week we are checking out the frontier town of Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape. A biker, Danie Malan sent in the fascinating history of the family farm he grew up at - Rietfontein. It was built as a fortified house, replete with gun ports, dungeons and heavy doors able to withstand attacks. Our forefathers had it tough!

We also take a drive through the nearby Mpofu Nature Reserve and ascend the Blinkwater Pass - famous for the many fossil finds by Thomas Bain's father, Andrew Geddes Bain.
