2015 KTM 690 Enduro R - Start problems
« on: August 15, 2020, 09:31:52 pm »
I am hoping someone on the forum can help me with starting issues I have on my 690. I did some riding two weeks ago and the bike have been standing in the garage since then. Yesterday when I pulled it out it did not want to start. The lights goes on, fuel pump starts, bike is in neutra l(green light), but the engine does not turn when I press the start button. The user manual troubleshooting said I must check the fuses and battery - They were all fine. My intuition says it might be a broken cable, but not sure. Dont want to strip the bike if it is something small or obvious. Any suggestions on what else I can try?

try and wiggle the start button while pushed in I've had issues there they tend to gather dust and get dirty contacts

if the lights dont dim when you push the starter button , its not the battery. check the starter button , if you washed the bike after you rode it, it my be some corrosion on the button contacts, as said above wiggle the button when pushing it in , if that does not work check the starter solenoid .

Thanks for the feedback. I have chekced the battery and the headlights do not dim when I press the starter button, but the voltage is in my view low when the ignition is turned on. The battery shows 12,4V when turned off and drops to 8,5-9V when turned on. No effect when starter bottom is pushed....I don't think this is normal. My question now is do I change the battery or service the starter button?

First try swop the battery or jump start if you suspect the battery. Starter button probably fine - just give it a spray with switch cleaner.

Battery doesn't have the power to pull in the starter relay that's why.the light doesn't dim. Try charging the battery but from what you mention I doubt it will hold charge for more than a day

Definitely sounds like the battery. been through this with my 690s a couple of times. You can jump start but it wont last for long.
