Oil filler cap key/tool thing
« on: August 28, 2020, 02:02:59 pm »
So I finally have my new-to-me GS....

Want to do an oil change as a routine after purchase maintenance but have found that the oil filler key is missing from the tool kit😑
Anybody got any idea where I can buy one? Also...should I stick to buying BMW OEM filters etc or is there another supplier in Cape Town to buy maintenance parts?

Regards👍

I have been using Hiflo air and oil filters for years. Track Mac stocks them.

On my BMW I used dealer filters (oil and air) and HiFlo depending on various factors.

The BMW air filter was blue and the HiFlo filter was blue.
Then the HiFlo filter changes to some orangy colour - the next BMW filter I got also changed to the orangy colour.

BMW does not make air and oil filters - they have no factory for that - it is just rebranded products with a massive markup.

I can 3D print you a oil filler cap key if you dont come right

Do you have the tool set screwdriver ? If so the handle can be used as this tool.
4 wheels move the body

No @Nish, it cannot.  The shape is completely different.

Completely different bike @Nish.  Yours is the LC, this is the AC thread.  AC screwdriver handle is completely different.

I lost mine some time ago in Africa, and after seeing the following tip on American made youtube channel (think it was Rawhide BMW school), tried it out and it worked just fine... With your heavy treaded boot, force pressure directly onto the cap and twist your foot quickly, it normally loosens the cap. Try it!

that would maybe work once off in the middle of nowhere - but I'm certainly not going to do that everytime - I'll get the correct key thanks
