« on: September 09, 2020, 12:23:15 pm »
Metal valve tire stems is a must. Yesterday my rear tire valve broke off at 140km/h. I was lucky. The dealer told me it was because I was riding to fast.My average speed before this was 160km/h.The bike is a 2019 Tiger 1200 xca with 3500km on the clock. This sh#t can kill you

What are you talking about?

Tube stem? I broke mine off while doing low speed with a low pressure tyre riding in sand.....to much power from the v twin and it moved the tyre on the rim.

Nothing wrong with rubber valve stems (BUT you are supposed to replace them when you replace tyres). :sip:

I've had the front go @ 120 km/h on a 21 inch wheel.

A sphincter puckering few moments there, I tell you.
Glad you lived to tell the tale.

btw, I read that if you have one of those valve mounted TPMS systems fitted you must definitely change to metal valves.

The dealer told me it was because I was riding to fast

Tell him he is talking bullshit.

It comes like that from their floor and if it is not fit for purpose they should clearly indicate same when you purchase the bike.
I think BMW had a sticker on the HP2 with knobbly tires?

There is a much bigger chance that the valve got torn/damaged at the garage when trying to inflate the wheel with those shity long inflaters of theirs.

I n order to get the tire inflated t he valve gets pulled and over time it causes the valve to tear.

Yip. I have a 90 degree extender that I screw onto the valve before inflating. Then don't be lazy and just force the inflator nozzle onto the valve: support the valve with one of your hands.
