Had you done similar shooting as a civilian you would've been arrested for negligence. A 9mm can easily travel 2km and there was a lot of traffic ahead of the bantam.

This cop is awesome. I love the fact that he walks away after the perp is down and let's the tresseme gang carry on.

There always have to be naysayers... well fuck you when you need the cops...

I commend the officer and the rest of the SAPS involved. They were doing the job we expect them to do.

While I agree that these criminals should be executed on the spot, the law works differently.

Here I see a cop basically shooting a fleeing suspect, possibly unarmed, in the back?

How can this be correct procedure, in the light of the law?

I hear what 2SD is saying and also wondering what is the correct legal procedure and if it is different for cops vs us. We also don't know what happened before the start of the video. When the guy falls out of the bakkie you can see he is bleeding from the hip. (minute 3,26 in the video) I applause this cop, but just wondering what would happen if I get on my bike chasing a hijacker of my car and shoot at him while Im chasing him, or chasing a robber and starts shooting while he is running away. I also want that option.

While he was following the bakkie, the cop fired several shots straight into the rear of the bakkie. Is this not the same as shooting at a man running away?

I do realise that the cop had to neutralise the thief, before he drove over or into someone though.

I think the difference here is while this guy if fleeing in a vehicle it can be argued that he is endangering other road users, so stopping him as soon as possible might save other lives. Agreed, that if any civilian shoots at a fleeing person he will be in trouble, unless you plead the same. Just a guess

I agree, and of course the "Tresemme gang"

is too poorly trained to stop him with a well executed PIT maneuver.

Or is mine? I'm not sure coz it doesn't work at all. Even though I use synthetic oil.
