Soft and relativly slow so no one hurt. Its a catch 22 go fast and risk getting hurt or go slow and fall anyway.
Sometimes best to paddle through sometimes ego wont let you.

I brought some prime estate just opposite Shell at the Samrand offramp on N1 south.  I drove in the construction lane early morning at about 120km/h when a faarkin speedbike pulled in right in front of me from slow moving traffic.  I went down hard and fast.  Lessons learned:  1.  All the Gear, all the time.  2.  Dont drive faster than slow moving traffic. 3.  Speed biker se ma se p...! You couldv'e stopped you idiot.  Next time use your mirrors or common sense.  Faarkit!

The bike slid on it's right hand side for about 120m luckily without hitting any traffic.  Freesliding all the way to a standstill.  I followed first on my hands, then whilst sliding I managed to turn on my back and rode it out on my jacket for about 65m.  I waived at the slow moving traffic on my way past them.  (I figured I might need some friends now, so make new ones fast.)

Typical, the tow in van was the first to arrive.  Only wanted to take my Gs to Bavarian. "Ek ken 'n pel wat daar werk, buddy"  I waited for the ambulance.  They bandaged my hands (both looked like this).  I hopped on the bike and drove it home.  Apparently, I don't have any friends at 6am in the morning. Checked myself into unitas after a double shot at home.  Cracked kneecap, Cracked shoulder scapula, and two bruises on my cheekbones from my helmet slapping the tar.

Bruises on my right hip after my off.

The damage to the right hand side of the bike.  Topbox scratched.  Propshaft scratched a little.  Right mirror broken off, but I managed to fix it.  I had one of those plastic head protectors on before the fall.  The was nothing left of it except the bolts.

Busy fixing it up at home while healing.  I couldnt get a glove on let alone hold on to the handlebars.  Took me two weeks just to slightly grip it again.

Fixed up and riding again. :ricky:  This was my first attempt at fixing a head cover.  After these photos were taken, I redid both the cylinder heads and replaced the spark plug covers.  Now they are as good as new.

Came round a bend in kimberley northern cape only to be met by this site:

This is how I ended up.

Again:  All The Gear All The Time.  All together now....

My first ride with the wilddogs.  A newbie ride organised by blazes.  New to the pack, I want to show off a bit and while standing I wave at the camera.  As I go over the hill where Blazes is taking the photo, right in front of me is tar.  I sqeeze brakes slightly.  The rear tire slips.  I let it go quickly and sqeeze again slowly.  Nope still too fast, still slipping, But the tar road is coming closer ever so flippen fast and I spot a truck coming from my left.  Crossing the tar would not be an option.   Hit on the brakes and go down on my left.  I slide the bike 4m and come to a standstill right next to the tar just as the truck shoots past, missing my mirrors lying in the road by inches.  Blazes comes running towards me asking:  Are you allright? Are you hurt?  But all the time still taking photos. Eissh.

So I bite my tongue, pick up the bike (normally not a problem) but there's a pinch on my left.  And it hurts.  And soon after I have trouble breathing.  But this is my first ride with the dogs and no way I'm turning around now.  I grit my teeth, up goes the bike, and I follow the rest of the pack and finish the ride.  After lunch, I chat my two riding buddies Janneman and Deamon to call it a day.  Luckily they agree and we hit the highway home.  Man, Now I'm really not breathing well.  Get home, my wife takes a look (she a gp)  "Ja jy wil mos, boer. Nou is jou ribbes moer toe."  Two cracked ribs and another two bruised badly.

Damage to the left head after my off on my first ride with the wilddog pack.  I still feel like a box.

There we go, all fixed up again.  And this time  I got myself some aluminium head protectors.  No more fixing heads for me.  :thumleft:

Double shot of kwv brandy, mike. And yes it was very ouch.  the worst I can remember was driving the bike home with dry bandages without any gause or padding. Taking bandages off at home burnt like hell and it started to bleed again. And I went to work when I was patched up that same day!

As tough as they come, or just stupid....
