How to replace lost registration paper
« on: September 29, 2020, 05:28:31 pm »
This is not for a bike but could well be. So the same info might help one of you lot in the future.

I'm in the Netherlands and left my trailer and car in SA for my wife to sell. She has now decided to forget where she put the papers and needs new ones.

Naturally, this is my fault and has become my problem. Hence the question - how to get new papers without me being there?

I did leave her with a general power of attorney letter, written by a real attorney. However, I doubt this will work if she goes shopping at the licensing department.

So, dogs .................... Who has a solid, no bullshit cure for my new headache? .......................And what's the best way to dispose of a body? ...........................

In normal circumstances only the registered owner can get duplicate registration certificates ...but there is a way for a 3rd party to get them but it takes time.

If in Cape Town I can help.

Where is your wife and where are the vehicles registered ?

Vehicles and wife are in Roodepoort, JHB. Both vehicles registered in Roodepoort/GP as well.

I would normally speak to a 3rd party registration assistance company (that I can't name) in Roodepoort but they don't know my wife or other family members, making this a ball-ache.

Cape Town bases friend also gave me power of attorney etc.

Ended up having him signing the application for duplicate registration papers - mailed to me with his ID, then my ID and some more forms.
Then the local traffic dept writes a letter of motivation, they send all the documents with, scanned as well.

Cracker, I really don't want to spoil your "fun", but I am busy trying to get a duplicate registration paper for my late brother-in-law's car
I am now 5 months busy with the process, and have not advanced a single mm. The solution is to try and play their game, ridiculous and time consuming as it is

The name of their game is innovative incompetence

That only happens much later. Once you've been through the other hoops and finally got some results.  >:D

I have had the same issue.

Been about a year now, no joy at all. Stuck in the USA, bike was registered in Pretoria.

At this stage I am prepared to do the "african way" and just pay a "fee" to get the document  :peepwall:  :lamer:
