After passing the Mine at Brand Se Baai there is a main dirt road leading to a Salt Pan and Salt mining operation ........i was thinking wow now I'm out of the sandy part and can get my speed up a bit...............no such luck soon after passing the salt mine the road turned again into a two spoor beach sand road......i thought to myself............myself what the %&%# are you doing here

anyway as my nature would have it i pressed on and a couple more gates the road and sand continued on forever............later on after Lepelsfontien and the more i headed towards Garies the ground got more compact and there was less sand to ride on....at least i could maintain a nice pace to Hondeklipbaai

die ding is swaar ........maar dit kan gedoen word........gelukkig ry ek baaie jare sand en het geleer om sand in Botswana te ry..........ja n mens moet maar net oefen en dit kom met tyd.......ek kan darem myself help ......maar dit bly n adrenaline rush veral as die pad draie het

After wild beach Camping near Brand se Baai and especially after the hectic sandy roads i decided to enjoy an up market glamping experience at Die Baai se Bek it was really good to have a nice shower and a decent meal one tends to appreciate these things when you been eating dust a bit

Also decided to take a rest day and chill out as i was in no rush to go anywhere

Soon found out the place to go was the liquor store by the beach ....the owner is also the towns butcher so beer wood ice and meat all the same place

Have been to this little town many times over the years and find because of its remoteness it is quiet relaxing here.......dirt roads in and dirt roads out

You have found Gert du Toit se Baai.

Damn but you took a long detour from Gamoep!!! You should have turned left out of "town" and firts road right. You would have T'ed the Springbok -Pofadder tar road just after Aggeneys. Guess you wanted to do the longest straight piece of dirt in SA, think it is 76 kms between Kliprand and Poadder. Straight as a ruler.

After my rest day in Hondeklipbaai i packed and set out towards Kamieskroon it was overcast and soon started to drizzle .......about 20km in i took the dirt road left following the map for africa tracks......it wasn't long and the rain came down in buckets......and there after sections of the roads became slick with mud......
i must confess I'm not very good in mud and what ever technique i apply inevitably i hit the deck at some point.......luckily i could definitely feel the TKC were giving me some stability in the thick stuff.
i was glad i had caught the rain early in that i had put on my rain suit......because the rain just kept coming down........my biggest problem was seeing where i was going as glasses and a visor and rain dont mix well....

eventually i got to Kamieskroon and pulled into one of the Restuarants it was full with bus load of elderly Tourists who probably came to look at the flowers.......they must of thought i was an alien coming in out of the rain covered in mud and wet........no one said a thing as i went and sat quietly in the corner and ordered breakfast and a cup of coffee....

My main plan at this point was to reach Klein Pella just north of Pofadder there was something about this place that intrigued me I had never been to Pella ...always drive or ride past......it was a post i had seen that someone shared some time ago........

When i started out from Hondeklipbaai my intention was to follow as many of the dirt tracks on the map as possible ........but after the mornings mud episodes i was wondering if i shouldn't woes out and take the tar to Springbok and go that way around........

Its amazing what a nice breakfast and a warm cup of coffee can do to your mental state..........i told myself................myself don't be a pissy keep going on the dirt roads .....they will eventually dry out.......this is semi desert country and probably has the lowest rainfall in SA.......what could go wrong.....

Anyway i was very glad i stuck to my decision to keep going.......although still muddy the road wound through the mountains and the views were breathtaking........I took the direction to Gamoep....it wasnt long and the roads dried and so did the rain......it remained overcast.......but the road was scenic and beautiful.....i was glad i had stuck to my guns about continuing on the dirt

At the T junction near Gamoep was what looked like the main dirt road the R355.... i was initially hoping to find tracks off this road but because the going was slow and i really wanted to get to Klein Pella i opted to take the faster/drier R355 south to Loeriesfontien or Kliprand then turn left or north again on the R358 to Pofadder........

on there section i was able to make up some good time to Pofadder......and by late afternoon around 5pm i arrived in Klein Pella......nearly 500km mostly dirt mud roads for the day

Once i got to the R355 and R358 the road was dry and i could pick up the pace to Pofadder
