Hectic,
It is all relative...

But I was more wondering what astrophysics, anaesthesiology and dentistry have in common...

Risks in the practice.  :patch:

Seriously. I mean, I loved Richard Bach's 4 book set of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy too.

Those statistics do not mean much, as although you can spend the same time in the air or on your bike or on foot, but have vastly different distances covered. More useful would be fatalities per hour or something like that.

Motorcycling is not dangerous at all. Its the sudden unplanned stop. Just like skydiving. Its not the fall that kills you...

Also, airline pilots are as a rule not nearly as reckless as bikers. In fact, they are so boring they play golf in their free time.

Pilots are however used to super-reliability, as your comparisons show...... :ricky:

Life is a terminal condition.

External influences aside, how long it takes is up to what we do and how we do it.
Take risks and you will find exhilaration... or death.
The fear of death can lead to fear of living life to the full.

So what about balance?

The most important balance when riding motorcycles is between the brain and the right wrist.
Speed doesn't kill - it is the unplanned sudden stop that does.
Life is far too short to be taken too seriously.
I am far too short to be taken too seriously.

This then perfectly explains why motorcycling is so much fun and so addictive  :ricky:

I have a pilot friend who is a perfect exception.  Although maybe having been grounded now for 7 months may have something to do with him riding more

Now if he had put up the full list of causes of injury and death it would have given a better perspective and shown that motorcycling is not the leading cause of injury and death... :sip:

As others may have pointed out... living is dangerous! :deal: >:D

We don't really need statistics to show that motorcyclists are the No.1 target of homicidal maniacs. We know that already. :deal:
